SEPTEMBER 29, 2022

Strong. Curious. Brave. Those are the qualities shared by all of our class attendees last Saturday! Whether they were bending steel, wrassling reeds in basket weaving, shaping wood in paddle building, learning to draw, or discovering Ayurvedic cooking, it took courage, fortitude and a spirit of adventure to come into the classroom. Way to go!

At Marine Mills Folk School, we offer an encouraging community that supports you along your creative journey. It's part of our mission and the mission of all folk schools!

In the spirit of community, we’re excited to introduce a new free event the first Saturday of every month: Mend with Friends! Join us from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm this Saturday, October 1 for the first event. Thanks to Molly Sanford for volunteering to be our host!

Looking further into October, if the cooler weather has you excited for warmer clothes, sign up for Felted Slippers, Nordic Peasant Knitting, Boro Mending, and Yarn Dyeing. We promise, you can do it!

The idea of Rosie the Riveter originated in a song written in 1942 by Redd Evans and John Jacob Loeb. At that time, images of women workers were widespread in the media in formats such as government posters, and commercial advertising was heavily used by the government to encourage women to volunteer for wartime service in factories.
