UPCOMING EVENTS & NEWS

New Director of Faith Formation!
JoAnn M. Lopez, MDiv. is joining our parish team as the new Director of Faith Formation. JoAnn received her Masters of Divinity from the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry, and spent seven years as Campus Minister for Liturgy at Seattle University. She is currently pursuing a Community Worker Diploma at George Brown College, to deepen her expertise in community engagement and anti-oppressive practice.

JoAnn grew up in India and Singapore, where she learned the importance of hospitality, inclusion, sharing meals, and how to live in a diverse world. She enjoys listening to stories, creating spaces for reflection and connection, and accompanying people in their journey. She is passionate about imagination as a tool which empowers us to dream and partner with God’s work in our world. JoAnn is excited to connect with parishioners and hear your hopes for faith formation at St. Basil’s – say hello to her at Sunday Masses!

Welcome JoAnn!

Indigenous Healing & Reconciliation Fund
Catholics throughout the Archdiocese of Toronto are invited to participate in the collection being held the weekend of October 1/2 to support the Indigenous Healing & Reconciliation Fund. The collection is a national grassroots effort to assist healing and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples of This Land. The fund was the result of a $30 million financial commitment made by the Canadian Bishops in September 2021. Funds will support culture and language revitalization, education and community building, healing and reconciliation for communities and families and dialogue involving Indigenous elders, spiritual leaders and youth with a focus on Indigenous spirituality and culture. This is an opportunity to follow the invitation of the Holy Father made earlier this year for each one of us to become engaged in the healing and reconciliation journey.

Much of the content reflects exactly what was seen at our local archdiocesan level and secondly reflected in the synthesis, For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission compiled by the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario.
