Should you Block your CSS Files?

In short, no.
Do not block access to your CSS and theme files in the robots.txt

This is because search engines need to be able to render the page, and blocking access can stop them from doing so and being able to understand the content.

Now, you may be wondering under what conditions people might block CSS.

I’ve seen instances where people disallow access in the robots.txt to try and save their crawl budget.

While you may think this is a good idea, it can stop search engines from being able to render the content on the website and have drastic actions as a result.

Always be mindful of what files are being blocked by your robots.txt file.
