VBSS training course for boarding teams completed in Bangladesh

UNODC GMCP supports the Bangladesh Coast Guard through the delivery of VBSS training for boarding teams 
From 18-29 September, another two-week Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) Course for Boarding Teams was delivered and completed by UNODC GMCP for the Bangladesh Coast Guard in BCG Base AGRAJATRA at Patuakhali, Barisal, Bangladesh. With the aim of enhancing the maritime security of the country, 12 officers participated in the training where tactical knowledge was delivered on a variety of subjects related to static boarding, offensive and defensive techniques, use of batons and handcuffs, ladder climbing techniques, first aid, and boarding underway, through a combination of theoretical and hands-on instruction. The training was funded by the Government of the United States of America.

UNODC GMCP delivered a small boat Coxswain Course for officers from the Maldives Coast Guards
A small boat Coxswain Course for the Maldives Coast Guards was commenced on September 25. This course is conducted at the Marine base of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF). Four Coast Guard officers are enrolled in this program. This three-week course focuses on the Law of the Sea, first-aid, boat handling, emergency procedures, and training related to navigation. The programme is funded by the Government of Japan.

TTX and live simulated exercise off the Sulu Sea in the Philippines

UNODC GMCP facilitated a TTX and live simulated exercise off the Sulu Sea in the Philippines
From 13-14 September, UNODC GMCP and the Joint Interagency Task Force-West (JIATF-W) collaborated to offer a combined Tabletop Exercise (TTX) and Field Training Exercise (FTX) to the Philippine National Coast Watch Center (NCWC), the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine National Police Maritime Group. The training aimed to strengthen Philippine inter-agency cooperation in response to maritime security incidents off the east coast of Palawan by taking them through planning stages of a maritime interdiction and eventual live simulated exercise to detain a vessel of interest. In addition, MDA trainings on the use of multiple sensors such as Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) were delivered prior to the event and were conducted both at the NCWC Headquarters in Manila, and at the Regional Coordination Center in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Multiple variations of VBSS trainings for MLE agencies in Southeast Asia

UNODC GMCP facilitated multiple variations of VBSS trainings for MLE agencies in Southeast Asia
From 12-23 September, sixteen personnel from Malaysia and the Philippine Coast Guard completed a two-week Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) training for boarding teams organized by UNODC GMCP in Batam, Indonesia. Expert VBSS trainers from Japan Coast Guard also delivered specialised skills on vessel boarding. In addition, UNODC GMCP delivered the first VBSS Instructors Course at the training facility in Batam to enhance skills of VBSS Trainers from Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam. The course provided participants comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the instructional techniques required to deliver a safe, well-planned and well-executed VBSS course. The Instructors Course aims to contribute to building a group of qualified VBSS trainers in Southeast Asia who can carry out similar training and live practice at sea for their respective Maritime Law Enforcement (MLA) agencies in the future.

Intermediate MDA course with MMEA and FRONTEX in Malaysia

From 19-22 September, UNODC GMCP conducted a four-day Intermediate Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) Course in Kuala Lumpur for the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). AMDA analysts from the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) attended, adding a new dynamic to the discussions and group activities. The objective of the course was to familiarise participants on MDA and the limitations of tools used in analysis, and covered various topics such as cooperative monitoring, airborne reconnaissance, tasking of drones and manned reconnaissance aircraft, and others. The training will support MMEA in utilising advanced technology to monitor and detect illicit activity at sea, as a vital part of modern maritime law enforcement.

TTX on effective management of volatile situations at sea in Vietnam

UNODC GMCP facilitated a TTX on effective management of volatile situations at sea in Vietnam 
UNODC GMCP conducted a Tabletop Exercise (TTX) on Effective Management of Volatile Situations at Sea in Da Nang from 20-21 September. The exercise aimed at strengthening the skills and experience of Vietnamese maritime law enforcement agencies on the de-escalation of tense situations at sea within UNCLOS framework. The training was delivered with combined theory and practical sessions using mock scenarios, thereby enhancing their capacity to deal with similar situations if encountered at sea. All the participants from Central-level and provincial-level participated actively in the group discussions, presentations and Q&A sessions on the mock scenarios. As part of the TTX training, the participants also visited Tien Sa seaport, the current largest seaport in Da Nang and the Central Region of Vietnam, to speak with the vessel crew on the experiences faced at sea.

UNODC GMCP in partnership with UNODC CCP facilitated a anti-corruption training and workshop for the LAF Navy and Customs in Lebanon
UNODC GMCP partnered with UNODC's Container Control Programme (CCP) to support anti-corruption efforts in Lebanon. A three day Anti-Corruption training and workshop was organised for the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) Navy and Lebanese Customs. The training was delivered by experts from International Anti - Corruption Academy (IACA) and UNODC Corruption and Economic Crime Branch (CEB).

VBSS operations for TiP/SoM delivered in Ghana

UNODC GMCP supports MLE agencies in Ghana and Zone F states to build well-trained VBSS teams 
With the support of the Governments of Canada, Denmark, and Italy, UNODC GMCP is holding the fourth series of Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations for Trafficking in Persons (TiP) and Smuggling of Migrants (SoM) with the overall objective to develop the maritime interdiction and arrest capabilities of Maritime Law Enforcement (MLA) agencies. These sessions are helping MLE agencies in Ghana and Zone F states to build well-trained VBSS teams who will be able to effectively conduct interdiction operations at sea and inland waters.

UNODC GMCP promotes building youth resilience to violence and crime through social developmental approaches to crime prevention in Nigeria
UNODC GMCP kicked off Line Up Live Up (LULU) inaugural meeting to sensitize parents, teachers, community leaders, children and youth in Ayamasa Community Bayelsa State. This is a ten-week programme in which children and youth aged 13-18 years will participate in sporting activities aimed at helping them build resilience towards crime prevention and drug use. UNODC GMCP has been partnering with relevant governmental, community and civil society actors to develop a broader crime prevention approach that focuses on knowledge and community-based interventions in Nigeria affected by piracy. This activity is funded by the Government of Germany.

El 20 de septiembre en San José, Costa Rica, UNODC GMCP bajo el liderazgo de la Fiscalía Adjunta contra el Narcotráfico y Delitos Conexos sostuvo una reunión interinstitucional con INCOPESCA, Capitanía de Puertos, OIJ, PCD, MOPT, SNGC siguiendo con el desarrollo de lineamientos y acciones para prevenir la clonación de la documentación de las embarcaciones pesqueras retenidas durante procedimientos judiciales como una medida de prevención del narcotráfico y delitos conexos.

Sesión técnica para el desarrollo de la CMSS en Santo Domingo

UNODC GMCP facilitó una sesión técnica para el desarrollo de la Estrategia de Seguridad Marítima para el Caribe (CMSS) en Santo Domingo
El 27 de septiembre, el UNODC GMCP, en fomento al desarrollo de una Estrategia de Seguridad Marítima para el Caribe (CMSS por sus siglas en inglés), realizó una sesión técnica en Santo Domingo, República Dominicana. La sesión estuvo integrada por representantes del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores (MIREX), la Armada y el Ministerio de Defensa (MIDE) de la República Dominicana, así como los expertos de la UNODC GMCP. En la misma se abordaron las estructuras de la estrategia (Objetivos, Metas y Medios) y se llevó a cabo un diálogo de los desafíos y amenazas marítimas, así como oportunidades y impacto positivo que la misma pudiera tener en el desarrollo de la economía azul de la región. La reunión resultó en diversos aportes para el enriquecimiento de la estrategia y el planteamiento de una futura sesión de discusión.

Fortaleciendo la comunicación entre los centros de operaciones marítimas de Jamaica y República Dominicana

Ejercicio de comunicaciones 22 (COMEX22) entre los centros de operaciones marítimas de las Fuerzas de Defensa de Jamaica, Armada de la República Dominicana y Real Fuerzas de Defensa de Jamaica 
Los ejercicios COMEX tiene como objetivo mantener la comunicación activa y ejercitar el uso de las plataformas que le han sido facilitadas (SEAVISION y SKYLIGHT) a los centros de operaciones marítimas que forman parte de la iniciativa MOC-MOC. Durante el mismo los participantes desarrollan escenarios de seguimiento electrónico a tráficos de interés (TOI) y SAR (búsqueda y rescate), utilizando los recursos que brindan las plataformas SKYLIGHT y SEAVISION. Del 12 y 15 de septiembre la Real Fuerza de Defensa de Bahamas dirigió el ejercicio, desarrollandose el día 12 un chequeo de comunicaciones a través de los canales previamente establecidos (telefonica, email y chat). El día 15 se desarrolló un escenario en el cual embarcaciones pesqueras recibieron droga de una go fast. Los centros recibieron los mensajes procedentes del centro de operaciones marítimas de Bahamas e iniciaron la búsqueda de las embarcaciones a través de las plataformas SKYLIGHT y SEAVISION, retrasmitiendo a través de los canales establecidos ubicación y resultados de los abordajes simulados. Los mismos se dieron sin ninguna novedad. El proximo ejercicio será liderado por JDF en Octubre.

Evaluación diagnostica de las capacidades de conciencia situacional marítima (MDA) de las Fuerzas de Defensa de Jamaica
Se realizo visita de evaluación diagnóstica de las capacidades de las Fuerzas de Defensa de Jamaica en cuanto a conciencia situacional marítima (MDA por sus siglas en ingles). Durante las estadía se sostuvieron reuniones con LCDR Tomlinson Director del Caribbean Military Training Center (CMTC) y con el Director de operaciones del MACC, Lt Facey con los cuales se tuvieron conversaciones de como UNODC GMCP puede fortalecer las capacidades del MACC y CMTC, en materia de MDA. Posterior representantes de UNODC GMCP se reunieron con el Director de la division de pesca del Ministerio de Agricultura, Dr. Gavin Bellamy quien expuso las amenazas en cuanto a pesca ilegal y sus planes para enfrentarla.

Engineering training for BPMPU officers in Somalia

UNODC GMCP facilitated engineering training for BPMPU officers in Somalia 
For this hands-on training in Bossaso, Somalia, the local engineering mentor and the Bossaso Port & Maritime Police Unit (BPMPU) officers used a Suzuki DF 90 HP, OBM in a familiarization training focused on the explanation of the overhaul of a four-stroke EFI OBM. In addition to this training, the participants conducted a sea trial to ensure efficiency on an operational patrol boat. Additionally, they performed maintenance on a Yamaha engine and inspected and serviced the carburetor, which supplies the internal combustion engine with air and fuel. The Officers cleaned the spark plugs, and replaced the sump gasket, which is a reservoir in which oil pumped through the engine's lubrication system pools.

UNODC GMCP had a strategic meeting with the Deputy National Security Advisor and the Executive Director (ED) of the Office of the National Security Advisor (ONSA) to discuss the strategic support and collaboration that UNODC GMCP can provide to the overall implementation of the National Security Strategy. Furthermore, UNODC GMCP provided details on future programmatic priorities and highlighted the main areas of collaboration.

Visit to Gabiley and Berbera Prisons

UNODC team conducted visits to Gabiley and Berbera Prisons in Somaliland
UNODC's prison team conducted two separate missions to Gabiley and Berbera prisons on 14 and 21 September, respectively. The purpose of the mission was to monitor the progress of ongoing and planned activities and then discuss the updates with the Ministry of Justice. During the meeting with MOJ on 22 September, it was agreed to commence the physical works for Berbera prison renovation with constant monitoring by UNODC and Ministry of Justice on-site engineers. There was also an agreement for the Department of Justice to collaborate with the commander of Gabiley Prison to determine the appropriate choice for a bakery installation inside the prison.

KCGS international trainers comprehensive course in Denmark

UNODC GMCP facilitated the participation of KCGS international training in Denmark 

With the support of the Government of Denmark and the Danish police, Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) officers had the chance to participate in international training in Denmark. The recommendation was based on the three KCGS IMS instructors' respective performance and service, starting as students in the IMS and Trainers-of-Trainers (ToT) in September 2021, and then as IMS instructors in the KCGS IMS training in November 2021 and the KCGS IMS Inter-agency training from 13 to 24 June 2022. They participated alongside three Kenyan National Police officers and newly certified instructors from the Danish National Police International Trainer Pool. Training included extensive theoretical and practical instruction and conducting of practical lessons in an adult cultural learning process. The objective for the three KCGS instructors was to improve their instructor skills for IMS, KCGS and other Kenyan agencies in the context of inter-agency cooperation, which will aid in combating maritime crimes in Kenya.

Boat maintenance training for SLCG officers in Somaliland

UNODC GMCP conducted a boat maintenance training for SLCG officers in Somaliland

In Berbera, the UNODC GMCP marine engineer provided training to four Somaliland Coast Guard (SLCG) officers on the repair and maintenance of one of the patrol boats and the removal of barnacles that had covered the hull. With the guidance of the mentor, the officers replaced the zinc anode to prevent general corrosion and damage to the boat. They performed several maintenance tasks throughout the week and painted a second boat concurrently.

Readiness training for patrol boats delivered in Mocha 

UNODC GMCP facilitated its very first PVST regional training in the Indian Ocean East region 

As part of UNODC GMCP's efforts to promote maritime security in the Red Sea in Yemen, UNODC GMCP carried out one-week readiness training at the YCG Mocha center. A total of 12 participants from the YCG Mocha Floating Unit participated in this training. This training focused on maritime skills needed to efficiently respond to the various incidents at sea, such as chart work, docking, mooring, boat handling, and search and rescue operations. For example, during one of the sea patrols conducted during this training, the participants supported a group of divers carrying out maintenance work for an underwater pipeline. The divers who ran out of water appreciated and thanked the YCG patrol boat crew for their professional response and assistance, which saved them from imminent dehydration that could have resulted in unwanted scenarios.

Assessment for automated systems used by the YCA

UNODC GMCP customs experts conducted a wide-range customs assessment for automated systems used by the Yemen Customs Authority 

UNODC GMCP customs experts continued the wide-range assessment that UNODC established last month to enhance the capability of the Yemen Customs Authority (YCA). Throughout the past two weeks, the UNODC team conducted an in-depth assessment of the current ASYCUDA++ used in Yemen's customs centers. The system was obsolete, incompatible with modern computers, and unable to cover most of the procedures followed by customs. The experts are currently working on identifying solutions and future alternatives necessary for YCA to cope with new technologies and, most notably, to enhance the customs process at Aden seaports.

SHIP-PORT interface drills conducted at Aden seaports

UNODC GMCP completed the training for 63 port personnel from the Aden Container Terminal on “Conducting Effective Ship/Port Interface"

On 18 and 21 September, UNODC GMCP completed the training for 63 port personnel from the Aden Container Terminal on “Conducting Effective Ship/Port Interface.” The training consisted of classroom and workgroup sessions to get familiarized with all the documents that must be handed over to the port by the ship’s security officer. On 20 September 2022, the Port Security Team conducted its first-ever ship/port interface at Aden Container Terminal (ACT) by boarding a motor vessel named Hera. The team was supported by UNODC GMCP Port Security Experts, who also guided the operations & safety department members to operate successfully. The team was joined onboard by the Master & Ship Security Officer, Ship’s Agent, Immigration Department, and a Ship Chandler. UNODC GMCP experts embedded at the port facilities will continue delivering training and drills to enhance the knowledge and confidence of the port personnel.

Infrastructure assessment for YCG Red Sea

UNODC GMCP conducted a site visit to assess the infrastructure of the YCG Red Sea facilities 

The Yemen Coast Guard Red Sea (YCG RS) site visit was carried out by the UNODC GMCP team from 20-26 September as part of the comprehensive assessment of the YCG RS facilities, TEPID-OIL. The primary purpose of this visit was to assess the existing infrastructure, meet with the YCG RS Commander, and propose a plan for the development of the facilities in the district as part of the YCG Regeneration Strategy Implementation Plan. The team visited four sites; the Al-Fanar center, which is the main center in Mokha, two primitive locations roughly 28 km to the North known as Al-Fajrah sites #1 & #2, and the strategically located new base at Bab al-Mandab strait. The YCG RS leadership shared their development ideas with their practical centers. UNODC GMCP strives to develop the YCG RS infrastructure and its locations that represent a suitable place for growth and enhanced regional law enforcement.

Diving equipment handed over to Yemen Coast Guard

UNODC GMCP supports the YCG through the delivery of equipment to improve diving operations 

UNODC GMCP handed over diving gear and equipment to the YCG, with the financial support from the UK FCDO. The importance of the diving equipment is to carry out underwater operations and search for sea mines that were intentionally planted on the coasts of the Red Sea in Yemen. UNODC GMCP works to develop the YCG’s ability to conduct needed operations to clear out the areas of responsibility from harmful substances, i.e., sea mines. This will enable the YCG to perform more advanced underwater missions and safe patrol operations. The mine clearing operations in the Red Sea are vital in creating a safer environment for the international ships and local fishing boats operating in the area.

Aden Ship dry-dock update

Aden ship, the YCG's largest vessel is currently undergoing repairs at Aden Port 

Under the support of the US Department of State EXBS Program and the UK FCDO, UNODC GMCP continues its repair work for the Aden Ship. The activities of the intensive repair for YCG’s pride patrol vessel are ongoing in the dockyard at the port of Djibouti. Overboard valves are being dismantled and overhauled, ensuring the proper operation of the under the sea level shut-off valves are in order when the ship is back into the waters. Sea water pipelines are also being overhauled and cleared from the sea scale accumulation that reduced the efficiency of the seawater cooling system onboard. In addition, a replacement was conducted for the sacrificial zinc anodes, which are the main component in the cathodic protection of the vessel’s hull that works by inhibiting the rate at which the metal corrodes. UNODC GMCP continues to direct efforts in figuring out the best options for the complete repair of the vessel, including its main engines.

Specialised riverine training for Mozambique's SERNIC conducted in Colombia

UNODC GMCP held an inter-regional specialised riverine training for MLE officers from Mozambique’s National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC)

In partnership with the Colombian Navy, UNODC GMCP completed a Specialised Riverine Training in Turbo, Colombia, from 29 August to 23 September 2022. The course objectives included improving the relevant Maritime Law Enforcement (MLE) agencies’ riverine law enforcement capabilities, therefore improving the management of and response to riverine crimes. The training included participants from Mozambique’s National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) and was funded by US INL.

Boat crew member training delivered across East Africa

UNODC GMCP delivered Boat Crew Member Training in Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Seychelles and Tanzania

UNODC GMCP completed Boat Crew Member Qualification trainings in Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Seychelles and Tanzania. In Madagascar, UNODC GMCP completed its first Boat Crew Member MLE training in Diego Suarez. Participants from the Madagascar Navy graduated last week, having completed both theoretical, classroom based learning and practical trainings out on the water. Assessment scores ranged from 85% to 97.5% pass rates. This activity is funded by US INL.

UNODC GMCP conducted a two-week Maritime Rule of Law training and Tabletop Exercise (TTX) in Mombasa for 24 personnel from the Kenyan Coast Guard Service (KCGS) and the Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The course provided a framework for implementing and maintaining an effective National Information Sharing and Coordination Center (NISCC) in the Western Indian Ocean. It also aimed at making sure that vessels are consistently kept in good condition through an affective maintenance plan, enhancing operational readiness. The courses included Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA), Outboard Engine Maintenance/Maintenance Planning and Judicial Considerations for Boarding Operations. This activity is funded by US INL.

UNODC GMCP carried out a two-week Maritime Rule of Law training and Tabletop Exercise (MROL TTX) in Mauritius. The training involved 35 personnel from the Coast Guard and two prosecutors from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). The course provides a framework for implementing and maintaining an effective National Information Sharing and Coordination Center (NISCC) in the Western Indian Ocean. It was also aimed to making sure that vessels are consistently kept in good condition through an affective maintenance plan, thus enhancing operational readiness. The courses include Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA), Outboard Engine Maintenance/Maintenance Planning and Judicial Considerations for Boarding Operations. This activity is funded by EU MASE.

Regional advanced VBSS training for boarding officers in Seychelles

UNODC GMCP delivered an advanced VBSS training for boarding officers in Seychelles 

In Seychelles, with the support of US INL, UNODC GMCP concluded a two-week regional Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) course, running from 7 to 20 September 2022. A total of 14 boarding officers from Comoros, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles and South Africa improved their skills in search and survival practices, boarding procedures and swimming techniques at sea. A national instructor from Seychelles Polices Force supported the facilitation of the theoretical and practical sessions. The closing ceremony was led by a representative from the US INL, who funded the event.

Funded by US INL, the second instructor course of the Bulk Carrier Search Course (BCSC) series facilitated by UNODC GMCP for Pakistan Customs, Coast Guard & Anti-Narcotics Force officers, concluded on 16 September 2022. Four senior officers received one week of training to prepare for and co-facilitate the following week’s course. This mentorship programme aims to equip law enforcement officers, who had graduated from previous substantive courses on searching bulk carriers, with the skills and knowledge to train their national units and build on national maritime law enforcement competencies. Following such instructor courses, and from 19 to 23 September, UNODC GMCP implemented the third Bulk Carrier Search Course for Pakistani law enforcement. 12 Pakistan Customs, Coast Guard, and Anti-Narcotics Force officers completed the BCSC which was co-facilitated by the graduate Pakistani instructors as part of their practical application.

Improving Port Security in Mozambique

Port security training conducted in Maputo, Mozambique under the EU-funded Port Security and Navigation Safety of Navigation Programme

On 27 September 2022, UNODC-GMCP held its end of training debrief and inter-agency workshop training on Port Security in Maputo, Mozambique. Twenty-seven senior officers representing the ports at the national level were present at the event, which was a follow up of the two-week training from April 2022. This event is implemented as part of the European Union (EU) funded Programme on Port Security and Safety of Navigation and coordinated by the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC).

Port security training conducted in Victoria, Seychelles under the EU-funded Port Security and Navigation Safety of Navigation Programme

On 20 September 2022, UNODC GMCP held its end of training debrief and Inter-agency Workshop Training on Port Security in Victoria, Seychelles. Twelve senior officers from the Civil Aviation, Port and Marine Department, Port Authority, Coast Guard, National Information Sharing and Coordination Centre, Attorney General, Police Force, Disaster Risk Management, Agriculture Department, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working in Port Security in Seychelles, participated in the training. This event is implemented as part of the EU-funded Programme on Port Security and Safety of Navigation and coordinated by the IOC.

TTX on Port Security delivered in Zanzibar

UNODC GMCP facilitated a TTX on Port Security in Zanzibar as part of a US-INL funded project on Countering Illicit Trafficking along the Swahili Coast

From 20 to 21 September 2022, as part of the US INL-funded project on Countering Illicit Trafficking along the Swahili Coast, UNODC GMCP implemented a two-day Tabletop Exercise (TTX) on Port Security in the Joint Port Control Unit at the Port of Zanzibar. Eight officers representing the Drug Control Enforcement Authority, Tanzania Intelligence Services, Customs, Police and the Marine Police and Zanzibar Port Authority took part in the exercise.

Regional tabletop exercise on Port Security in Dar es Salaam

UNODC GMCP conducted a regional tabletop exercise on Port Security in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

As part of the US INL-funded project on Countering Illicit Trafficking along the Swahili Coast, UNODC GMCP implemented a two-day Regional Tabletop Exercise on Port Security in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Thirteen officers from the Joint Port Control Units of Mombasa and Dar es Salaam participated in these exercises. This activity is a follow up of the local Tabletop exercises (TTX) that were held in both units earlier this year.

Security information reporting at Kamiti Maximum Prison in Kenya

UNODC GMCP supports the Kenya Prison Services through the delivery of Security Information Reporting training at Kamiti Maximum Prison in Nairobi

From 19-23 September, UNODC GMCP facilitated a Security Information Reporting (SIR) training at Kamiti Maximum Prison in Nairobi. During the five-day intensive training, the officers undertook the first level of SIR training designed to introduce them to the critical role that SIR plays in prison security and management of violent extremism. The training was conducted under the Prevention of Violent Extremism project for Kenya Prisons, funded by the UK.

Funded by the UK, UNODC GMCP facilitated a Risk Assessment Level 2 training at Kamiti Maximum Prison and Langata Women prison in Nairobi

rom 19 September to 30 September, UNODC GMCP facilitated a Risk Assessment Level 2 training at Kamiti Maximum Prison and Langata Women prison in Nairobi. The training reinforces the capacity of the officers to assess the risk level of violent extremist offenders. In addition, it ensures that proper detention and disengagement strategies are applied. The training is conducted under the Prevention of Violent Extremism project for Kenya Prisons, funded by the UK.
