Reflecting

The word framing my reflections this month is Legacy.

A few weekends ago I travelled to Paris for a long weekend with my friend Stef. This trip has been planned and replanned for the last 3 years as one of my 40th birthday celebrations. I wanted to go and visit the Monet gardens in Giverny - which were breathtakingly beautiful. We also went to lots of the galleries which I have not been to since I was a GCSE Art student in 1994! The legacy of an artist and the impressionist movement captured through paint at the Musee D’Orsay and the L’Orangerie, and through planting at the house that inspired his greatest works.

Mid-week I travelled to London to present to a group of headteachers and trust leaders at Education for the 21st Century. I had met the CEO and COO online before, but this was a face to face launch of their DEI strategy. I was a tad overwhelmed by how many people I knew in the room who I was not expecting to see. I guess that is being a secondary school teacher/ leader in South London for 15+ years! It was fantastic to reconnect with legacy connections, to reminisce and to see where they all are now.

In the same week I also travelled to Derry in Northern Ireland to join the WomenEdNI team at their 3rd unconference. They asked me to be their opening keynote to share my leadership journey and my legacy in schools and grassroots communities. It was the first #WomenEd event I have been to in years and I received a very warm welcome by friends, old and new. We even made it into the local newspaper too, Derry Now!

Anticipating

October is busy with lots of conferences - I am looking forward to speaking at the Archway and Transformation Trust conferences in Derby, the E21C Trust conference in Bromley and the RLE Conference in Wiltshire. I definitely need to touch up my face-to-face networking skills as I am a bit rusty!

Developing

We have launched a number of new series and programmes in September which keeps the conversations fresh. I especially enjoyed launching the new Courageous Conversations series with Hearts Academy Trust in Essex.

Bennie and I have also been meeting lots to finish the design of our new Leading the Diverse Curriculum Programme which launches with cohorts 1 and 2 in October.

Marketing

My brilliant designer Blue has been working on my brochure to showcase everything that I do, independently and with my associate coaches and trainers. It is now live on my website.

Collaborating

I am enjoying working with a number of new MATs. This term we are working with Education in the 21st Century, Transformation Trust, Archway Trust, The Excalibur Trust, Summit Learning Trust and the Dioceses of Coventry Trust.  It is great to build an ongoing conversation about the leadership of DEI and to be helping organisations work at scale on their strategic intent.

Training

We have new cohorts launching soon for the following leadership programmes:

Regaining Your Mojo – I ran this programme lots during the lockdowns, it is a lovely 5 week group coaching programme and I have scheduled the next series of 5 weekly sessions in the later half of the Autumn term as we close the year.

Leading in Uncertainty – this programme runs for 12 weeks and is a group exploration of leadership through adversity. If you want to develop your resilience as a leader then this programme is for you.
