Sadly the green staff came across this damage to the first green on Friday lunch time. It wasn't there first thing in the morning so it was most probably done buy a golfer during the morning. Hard to believe really.
Professional’s Day to the Members

Dear members,

This years Professional’s Day to the members will be held on Sunday October 9th and Wednesday October 12th (Ladies can play either day) in aid of Remember Us. Remember US is a social group for people with special needs based in Balbriggan.

A young man with down syndrome by the name of Adam took part in one of our Introduction to Golf classes this summer. From talking to Adam and his mother, Aileen, I heard about the fantastic work Remember Us do for people of all ages with special needs.

Here is a link with information on the back story of how and why Remember Us was set up-
Our Story | Remember Us

The competition on the day will be singles stableford, Yellow/Red tees with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in both ladies and gents categories. The entry fee is €10 with all proceeds going to charity. Anyone who is unable to play on the day but would like to donate can do so in the proshop.

As always, I would like to thank all members for their support of my annual event and I look forward to seeing all competitors on the day.

Kind regards,

Friday Nighters Final

Mexican Scramble Saturday 8th October - time sheet open now.

What is a Mexican Scramble I hear you ask???
All tee off, pick best drive. The next shot is played by all except the person whose drive was picked. And so on for each subsequent shot. (So 4 shots to choose from from tee but then only 3 for subsequent shots.)

The entry fee arrangements will be the same as usual - cash to be submitted before play. The amounts are different to the regular Friday Night events - €30 for members, €35 for guests for a three course meal in the Carrickbrack Room.

Monday Nighters Final

Mens Monday Nighters

The Michael Kelly Trophy, held in a blaze of sunshine, brought a close to the Monday Nighters season on Saturday. There were 78 competitors in total, including guests. Owen Pepper won the trophy with a magnificent 39 points. Joe Brightling capped a great season by coming home second with 38 points beating Cian Kellett on the last 6. Kathir Tamilmani, following two victories in the weekly competitions, claimed fourth on 37 points edging out Jim Fitzgerald on the last 9.

Michael Kelly Trophy

1st Owen Pepper - 39 points

2nd Joe Brightling – 38 points (L6)

3rd Cian Kellett - 38 points

4th Kathir Tamilmani - 37 points (L9)

5th Jim Fitzgerald - 37 points

Martin Cleary won the visitors prize with 37 points and will have his prize of €75 credited to his shop account. Kevin Kennedy was one of a number of players to get a twosie but the only one who entered the twosie competition so he scooped the pot!

..................................................

The winner of the Monday Nighters League for the Neil Paul Trophy was Joe Brightling who had the highest average over his best 12 rounds. The scoring for the season was consistently high and the averages were very respectable as seen in the top 20 places. We had 23 Monday competitions with none affected by weather. A total of 131 people played in the league. The total rounds of golf played was 1,044, while 41 players played 12 or more rounds during the season. We had 42 twosies over the season!

*Michael O’Neill came second in the Monday Nighters League. Unfortunately, he had a score of 24 points disqualified on Monday 19th Sept as his card could not be located.

The Annual Dinner was held on Saturday Night and we were delighted to have Captain Karl and Lady Captain Gillian in attendance. Karl made the presentations to the top 10 League winners while Gillian presented the prizes to the top 5 in the Michael Kelly Trophy.

The very popular winner of the Monday Nighter of the Year Trophy was John Robinson who was afforded a well deserved standing ovation! Even though John has handed over the organisational reigns, he continues to contribute to a very vibrant Monday Nighter community. His award is long overdue!

Thank you to Mayane and her team for a lovely meal on Saturday night. We would also like to thank Alan, Simon, Joyce and Breda for their support and assistance over the season. We would also like to acknowledge the help and advice provided by Kevin O’ Riordan during the season.

See you all for the 2023 season which begins as soon as the hour goes forward (we’ll wait for it to go back first though...).
