Dear RLC alumni, parents, and friends,
Pundit Mark Shields once said that “every one of us has been warmed by fires we did not build, and every one of us has drunk from wells we did not dig. We shouldn’t do less for those who come after us. And, together, we can do so much more."
The Turn Back Time 80s Celebration was a personification of that ideal. I was warmed to see alumni, parents, and staff representing every era in the school's life. (There are some photos below. For a slideshow from the evening, click here.) This is clearly a school that means so much to so many. I am moved to say that together we raised in excess of $60,000 toward a program that will elevate the student experience, and further define the school. Once complete, the sailing initiative will bring new boats and new expertise, revitalizing a key element of the RLC offering. As a member of Ontario Sailing, it will also allow RLC students to participate in and host regattas, and engage in sailing networks.
Thanks so much to Sarah & Kelly Carrick '86. Not only did they provide leadership and a space, they also brought a unique energy to the event. It felt as unique and personal as the school itself.
Thanks to Brian Betsworth '90 for DJing, providing a soundtrack to the evening. Thanks to Phil Allan '72 for doing such a fantastic job as auctioneer. Of course, a huge thanks also to everyone who donated the auction items.
Of course, a heartfelt thank you–there really aren’t words–to everyone who offered such generous support of the sailing initiative. For those of you who pledged support during the auction, if you haven't already forwarded those funds, you can do it by clicking here and completing the online donation form. As promised, all donors will receive a set of RLC glasses like those that were used during the event.
