Toonspeak

Toonspeak is one of twenty six organisations awarded funding by Creative Scotland as part of the Culture Collective national programme, which has established a network of creative practitioners, organisations and communities, working together to create a positive difference locally and nationally in response to COVID-19.

The Culture Collective project for Toonspeak is based in Ward 17 (Springburn /Balornock / Barmulloch / Robroyston / Millerston), in the North of Glasgow. A quarter of the datazones in Ward 17 are among the 5% most deprived datazones in Scotland. Therefore a crucial element of the programme is that the artists engaged are passionate about using the arts to empower communities who face challenges of multiple deprivation, and to improve the lives of individuals.

Artists are trained and supported to see themselves as part of the community and we will capitalise on the expertise and knowledge of partners to support the creative team with a deep understanding of the social, cultural and historical landscape in which this project will take place.

STP - Loves Local

Scotland’s long-term recovery from Covid-19.  The programme began as a high profile multimedia campaign designed to blend the message of safety and business recovery whilst encouraging everyone to think, choose and spend locally. Scotland Loves Local enables and supports communities making them fairer, stronger, greener and more sustainable.

The Scotland Loves Local Gift Card was launched in 2021 to stimulate local economies and assist with the recovery of all businesses across Scotland. The Scotland Loves Local programme and gift card is relevant to every community and is not just about immediate recovery, but also a longer-term change in keeping money local for longer, encouraging people to choose local for the long term.

The gift card has localism at its heart as not only provides an income stream for businesses, but also protects local jobs and enhances local services.  All in turn making Scotland’s communities a better place to live, work and visit.

Geeza Break

Geeza Break’s main task is to achieve improved health and well-being of individuals, families and their children. In order to achieve this, as a voluntary organisation, we provide family support and flexible respite services to parents with children aged 0-16 years, predominantly within the East/North East in Glasgow (services are provided to kinship carers who are caring for children due to addiction issues across Glasgow).

The service is intended to be a short term flexible support to families experiencing addiction, stress, crisis or isolation. These services set out to achieve a set of aims for both the family and children.

Family Support is offered to parents living within the North End of Glasgow and who have a child/children under the age of sixteen years. In partnership with Geeza Break, Family Support aims to assist with  preventing/reducing statutory involvement by working with clients to develop skills such as parenting skills, day to day living skills and confidence.

Respite Sitting provides positive, fun experiences empowering children to lead healthier lives as well as developing their educational and cultural interests.

Fire and Peace

Fire & Peace Recovery offers additional resources and support to individuals in their mental health and addiction recovery. We organise expeditions to remote areas of Scotland, where we facilitate group sharing sessions, and teach wild camping and bushcraft skills. In addition to recovery trips, we collaborate with a range of community organisations on day trips, workshops, and outdoor activities. We have over 30 live projects and work with over 250 beneficiaries each year including children, young people, and adults.

A significant achievement for us is launching the Youth Movement, involving local high-schools, and youth organisations; Ysortit and G15 Youth Project. Through these partnerships, we identify young people affected by anxiety, depression, and isolation, or at risk of involvement in anti-social behaviour. We offer them day trips in nature, and provide a space for sharing, and empowerment.

We also offer 1-2-1 support and mentorship for the most vulnerable and at risk pupils. Other notable achievements include recently funding our own minibus, helping us to make wild spaces accessible to more people.
