Message from the Headteacher
|
|
|
Another great week at Codsall.
Last week we saw some sixth form students travel to The Globe Theatre in London as part of their curriculum enrichment, and a visit to RAF Cosford for some Year 10 students. We are also in the process of electing our House Captains. On Friday we enjoyed the Football Academy playing in an exciting game against Thomas Telford school in the Super Cup. I am delighted with their performance and look forward to their next game as they progress throughout the competition.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome our Y9 Parents to our settling in evening on Thursday.
Simon Maxfield

Hello Yellow
This week our assemblies across the school will focus on World Mental Health Day - Hello Yellow.
World Mental Health day is Monday 10th October, but our assemblies will go on throughout the week for all year groups.
The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on 10 October every year.
The theme of 2022's World Mental Health Day, set by the World Federation for Mental Health, is 'Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority'.
World Mental Health Day is also a chance to talk about mental health in general, how we need to look after it, and how important it is to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.

On 4th October a group of year 10 students had the opportunity to participate in an event at RAF Cosford Museum. The aim of the event was to inspire the next generation to aim high, to increase confidence and communication skills.
The students took part in various workshops throughout the day including rocket building and problem solving. The event was organised by Mid Counties Co-op in conjunction with The Jon Egging Trust. The organisers of the event praised our students for the way they engaged in the activities and made the most of the opportunity.

Year 13 Tempestuous Train Trip to The Globe
|
|
|
Despite having to navigate train cancellations and the rat race that is 'The Tube', a pleasant day was had by Year 13 on their recent trip to The Globe to see The Bard's 'The Tempest'.
Having not read the reviews beforehand, we were all a little taken aback to see the cantankerous Prospero strip to a yellow pair of Speedo swimming trunks for the majority of the performance, and Southern Fried Chicken being blown across the stage. In fact, we're still trying to figure it all out but as English Literature students, I'm sure we'll find a way to link it to the themes of magic, authority and reconciliation!

Football Academy ESFA and League results
|
|
|
The English School's Football Association (ESFA) - u18 Super League - is for the top 32 selected schools and colleges in the country and is invitation only.
The competition follows a Champions League format with eight groups of four, which you must win to progress into the knockout stages. This season in our group we have: Thomas Telford, Shrewsbury School and North Shropshire College.
Last Friday our first group game saw us play and beat Thomas Telford at home, 3-1. In torrential rain, racing into a 3-0 lead, goals scored by Jake Cooksey, Ben Wheaver and Oli Boote, the game was coasting until the opposition pulled back a late goal. This puts us at the top of the table so far.

Welcome to Endeavour House.
Our motto of 'Endeavour to be extraordinary' is something that is very important to our school community, and really does embody what it means to be a student at Codsall High School, not just academically but also in our effort, achievement and altruism - the last of which will be the focus of our next competition.
This half term however we have been challenging our year 9s to make the best form board - to show their form and house pride - and the winner of this will be selected this week.
Endeavour will also be setting up our Go Fund Me page this half term to raise money for the Kiyan Prince Foundation. The link is https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/EndeavourHouseCodsall

Non-Emergency Medical Appointments
|
|
|
REMINDER
We know that students have unavoidably lost learning in recent years but as we return to a sense of normality we would ask parents to make non-emergency medical appointments outside school hours where possible to enable students to be in lessons and focused on learning this year.
Thank you for your support with this.

We have received the following information from British Cycling and have been asked to share it with parents and carers.
|
|
I am emailing from British Cycling and I am the Club and Group Developer for the West Midlands. My role is centered around improving the opportunities for people to ride bikes.
We are currently working with a cycling club to host an entry level race at Cannock Chase on Saturday 15th October. And I just wondered if you could advertise it with your students / parents & guardians.
Here is the link:
Cannock Chase Go-Ride Race Events - British Cycling
We appreciate that not everyone has access to a bike and helmet, so we do have a number of bikes that can be used, however, this will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Also, if you would be interested in speaking about extra-curricular opportunities in cycling, I would be happy to do so. Having been a teacher for a number of years, I know how important time outside of the classroom is and especially in the post-covid world.
Kind regards,
Toby Turner
West Midlands Region Club and Group Developer

Parents claiming some benefits can claim free school meals for any of their children who are registered at a Staffordshire school and who would normally be at school at lunch time. School meals are a good way to ensure that your child eats well at lunchtime and you can save yourself time and money.
Even if you don't want your children to have the meals, claiming them helps their school. The more eligible parents who claim meals, the more funding the school receives.
The phone number for the free school entitlement checking service team has changed. Should you need to contact them regarding any claims queries, their number is now 0300 111 8007 option 3, then option 2
