Dear Friend,
Tonight begins the holiest day in the Jewish calendar- Yom Kippur. For 26ish hours, many Jews will fast from food and water, refrain from modern life, and sink deep into contemplation asking forgiveness from others, ourselves, and God.
It is a powerful day with some of the most bone-resonating melodies, prayers listing every transgression possible less we try to hide from the truth of our imperfections, and a communal humbling ourselves before Creation.
The ritual in community, the reflection, and the extreme vulnerability call me to the practices of my ancestors for many generations. And reminds me that this modern day tradition is deeply mystical and earth based, surviving for thousands of years. The dedication to a better world not just for ourselves but for each human here on earth is a universal striving (a girl can dream). All of this together is a day that returns me to be thankful of living - the beauty and wonder that surrounds us and is us.
As I move closer to the holiday I reflect on our time together. Each person I have sat with this year has had an impact on me. I am deeply honored by the wisdom, the humanity, and the connection when I am with you. I am humbled by the awe and beauty you possess. I have reverence for your journey- it’s joys and sorrows. I hope this coming year brings us together again.
And while my tradition most likely isn't your tradition, I see my Judaism through a universal lens. Haven't each one of us made a mistake or wronged another? Haven't we at some time (much of the time) looked past the wonderment and awe of life? Couldn't we all use a reminder now and then that life is deeply paradoxical and that we can embody this paradox - holding beauty and sorrow together like a woven fabric?
I invite you into the day of reflection and vulnerability. Yes it's a Wednesday, a most inconvenient day for a holiday :) in our modern world. Maybe it could be a minute or two for contemplation on your life, your course and where a micro-step could help you course correct, and then begin again in your life's journey, intertwined with all the beautiful beings on our miraculous planet.

The tarot is an elegant system with many layers to guide our lives. One of the most significant elements of the tarot is the correspondence to the natural world. With the elements as the central focus of the Tarot, it is a natural instrument to use to help us honor the seasons, balance our inner landscapes, as well as provide an antidote to what threatens to cause disharmony within. The cards beautifully speak to the ever-changing constitution of the natural world and how we can be in wise relationship with the world and the communities that surround us.
Join us as we deepen our understanding of the tarot as a seasonal tool for balance, relationship, and inner reflection.
In this workshop, you will:

Learn to read tarot in an intuitive, dynamic, and personal way
How to use tarot for personal reflection and transformation
Learn how to use tarot to communicate with the universe around you throughout seasonal change

Tarot cards are not required - but certainly are welcome. There are a plethora of tarot deck options, and Valerie will share thoughts on how to best select a deck for yourself.
