What's happened?
Having unveiled the phone in China over the summer, Motorola has now launched the latest Moto Razr in western markets, with a price tag that's much less eye-watering than the previous Razr 5G.
Why does it matter?
The Moto Razr 2022 comes with modern flagship specs, and will be available to buy in the UK for £949, making it a more competitive offering and one that will go head-to-head with Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 4.
What's my take?
Last week, we told you that Motorola plans to launch two new Razr foldable phones next year but first we have this, the 2022 model (literally, as it's in its name).
It has decent spec, running on a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and sporting an internal 6.7-inch folding OLED display, so is a worthy successor to the brand's first try. However, it's that price that's perhaps most interesting - being roughly similar to Samsung's Flip 4.
This is key to the future of not only Moto's foldable device ambitions but the technology's uptake going forward. There's little doubt that clamshell and other folding phones are alluring, but they have often been priced above the budget of most potential consumers and therefore remained niche.
So, by releasing the Razr 2022 at under a grand, Motorola has instantly made it a more attractive alternative.
