MEETING ROOMS

Private meeting rooms can be booked for 45 minutes beginning at the top of the hour, Monday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM with a reservation. Reservations must be made online here.
OCTOBER ART EXHIBIT
•••   The work of mixed media artist Lauraye White is on display in the library's Community Room throughout the month of October. Learn more about the artist here.
NOVEMBER ART EXHIBIT
•••   A selection of quilts created by the Martha’s Vineyard Modern Quilt Guild will be on display in the Community Room throughout the month of November. Please join us for a reception on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 3-4:30pm. Learn more about the exhibit here.
LEARNING LAB
•••   Teens and kids ages 12+ are invited to the Young Adult Room after school for Learning Lab. Learning Lab is open Mondays-Fridays from 3-5pm. Email Young Adult Librarian Laura Hearn with any questions: lhearn@clamsnet.org.
POP-UP BOOK SALE!
•••   On Sunday, November 6, from 12-4pm, the Friends of the West Tisbury Library will be holding a Pop-Up Book Sale at the library:
• Cookbooks and Jigsaw Puzzles – $5.00 each
• Trade paperbacks – $1.00
• Holiday-themed and Vineyard Books – priced as marked.
Cash, check, credit card. Come to our future pop-up sales on December 18, 19, and 20!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
•••   The Friends of the West Tisbury Library are looking for volunteers to help sort books or work at their pre-holiday pop-up sales at the library. Book sorting takes place in the sheds located at the West Tisbury School. Book sales will take place at the library on November 6, December 18, 19, and 20. If you are interested please email friendsofwtl@gmail.com.

The Friends are also seeking donations of lightly-used, recently published books for the pre-holiday book sale!
They are accepting cookbooks, fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books. If you have books you wish to donate, please bring them to the Friends’ sheds at the West Tisbury School. If they are being left outside the shed, please be sure that they are in a weatherproof plastic bag.

•••   Local architect Bruce MacNelly will give a presentation titled “Form, Function, and Frank." This presentation will look at Frank Gehry’s iconic Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Please email wt_mail@clamsnet.org to receive the Zoom invitation. 
TODAY! TUESDAY, OCTOBER 25, at 5 PM: KNITTING GROUP (in-person)
•••   All are welcome to join the library’s Knitting Group on Tuesdays at 5pm. Join librarian Lyn for a relaxing hour of creativity and conversation. Help yourself to supplies provided by the library or bring your own supplies from home or another project you are working on. This group is open to adults and teens, and all levels are welcome. No sign up is required.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26, at 7:30 AM: CHAIR YOGA AND MEDITATION CLASS (online via Zoom)
•••    All levels and ages are invited to chair yoga and meditation led by Jason Mazar-Kelly (YogiJay) on Wednesdays. In this class, participants will be guided through seated and moving meditations utilizing the support and assistance of a chair. All you will need for this class is an armless chair and a place to put it. Please click here to sign up.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26, at 10:30 AM: TRADITIONAL STORYTIME (in-person)
•••   Children’s librarian Mikaela will be hosting a weekly in-person storytime. Families are invited to come listen to and enjoy books, both new and old, with some songs thrown in the mix. This storytime is designed for toddlers and young kids, but all ages are welcome! No sign up required.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26, from 11 AM - 1 PM: DIGITAL NAVIGATION ASSISTANCE (in-person, by appointment)
•••   Digital Navigation Technology Assistance is available by appointment Wednesdays from 11am-1pm. Do you need help navigating the internet, using a smartphone or tablet, or other technology questions? Email rrooney@clamsnet.org to set up an appointment. Appointments are limited to 20 minutes, once a week. 
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26, at 3 PM: VIRTUAL REALITY FOR TWEENS & TEENS (in-person)
•••   Join us Wednesdays from 3-5 pm for VR in the Young Adult Room. The library’s Oculus VR will be set up for 10-15 minute of use per person with age appropriate games. This program is for ages 10-18. Please sign-up once you arrive.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26, at 3 PM: PEN PALS PROGRAM (in-person)
•••   The Family Support Center together with Nantucket S.T.A.R. is reviving snail mail as a way to bring our communities together. Whether you like to create art, write notes, collect stickers, type a letter or more – connecting through letters is a treasured way to expand your community. Both parent and child will read the selected book (together or apart), then come to the library and join in on a guided discussion with other families! •••    Shanta Gabriel will lead her weekly Empowering Wellbeing Workshop through the fall. In this class, you will receive simple yet profound exercises that will help you feel more aligned and nourished in your daily life. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28, at 7:30 AM: YOGA CLASS WITH JASON MAZAR-KELLY (online via Zoom)
•••    Join our weekly all-levels Kripalu Flow Yoga led by Jason Mazar-Kelly (Yogijay). Classes focus on soothing the nervous system through a combination of movement, breathwork, and meditation. This class is accessible to all levels and is a fun way to wake up while starting the day with a sense of peace in these times of uncertainty.

•••    Kanta Lipsky will continue her virtual Balance Classes on Mondays and Fridays at 11:30 AM. In this class, we will explore ways to strengthen our connection to the earth and increase our bodies’ ability to maintain good balance. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29, at 10:30 AM: ADULT COMMUNITY DANCE CLASS (in-person)
•••    Join Jesse Keller Jason's in-person dance class on Saturdays from 10:30-11:30am. Each class includes a guided warm-up, upbeat movement sequences, and space for the dancers’ own creativity. All levels are welcome! No sign up needed to attend.

•••    All are invited to the library's annual Halloween Party! Come in costume, hop on a hayride, play some games, paint a pumpkin, and munch on some spooky refreshments. All ages are welcome!

•••    Join us in the Community Room for a Halloween party for teens and tweens! Wear your costume and join us for games, contests, snacks and more. This program is geared towards ages 10-18. There is no sign up required to attend.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2, at 4:30 PM: THE CRAFT OF POETRY (online via Zoom)
•••   Led by West Tisbury Poet Laureate Tain Leonard-Peck. We will focus on building the fundamentals of crafting poetry, through analyzing original pieces submitted by workshop participants. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 3, at 4 PM: RURAL SCHOLARS PRESENTATION (in-person)
•••  The 2022 Rural Scholars from the University of Massachusetts will give a presentation at the library. This year’s research project is titled, “Assessment of capacity to deliver integrated, health and social services at home to home-bound MV residents who are disabled or older adults.” Come learn about their findings and recommendations. MUSIC STREET CONCERT (in-person)
•••  Music Street’s fall concert will showcase the great song tradition of Great Britain and America in a program titled “Back and Forth across the Pond”. Award winning graduates of the Longy School of Music soprano Hannah Meloy and baritone David Mather will be accompanied by pianist Diane Katzenberg Braun. The drama of war, the sea, love and political ambition will alternate with duets from Broadway and a touch of Gilbert and Sullivan.This concert is sponsored by the Friends of the West Tisbury Library and the West Tisbury Library Foundation. DROP IN WELLNESS CLINIC (in-person)
•••  Public health nurse Lila Fischer will offer a free drop-in wellness clinic on the first Monday of each month. Island Health Care, in conjunction with the Island’s boards of health, offer free blood pressure and other screenings, health counseling, and monthly health promotion information. No registration needed.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 12, from 12-2 PM:
CHAIN REACTION ACTIVITY FOR KIDS! (in-person)
•••  Kids and families are invited to join Hugh Phear at the library to build a Rube Goldbergesque-contraption. All ages are welcome to come try their hand at building an inspired device that performs a simple task in a creative and convoluted way. With limited time, materials, and space, participants will be challenged to innovate in this fun and facilitated activity. No sign up required.

•••   The library presents a virtual Death Café hosted by Heather Massey, facilitator and co-founder of Massachusetts’ first Death Cafe. This gathering will provide a comfortable atmosphere in which to share a respectful, thought-provoking, and life-affirming conversation on the topics of death, dying, and bereavement. •••    The Martha’s Vineyard Library Association has partnered with Brainfuse, a national online education company, to provide free online tutoring and homework help to all Martha's Vineyard library cardholders.
