My artwork consists of manipulated photography utilizing surreal imagery and fantasy color to explore the emotional side of reality and layered moments. I often utilize myself as the subject, transforming into what I want to convey. Focusing on issues surrounding women, body confidence and positive sexuality.

My high relief mixed media works let me explore my love of bouncing light, fabric, and the beauty of the female form. They eradicate surface imperfections women obsess over and shift the focus to the grace and beauty of each woman’s shape, representing a modern-day statue of Aphrodite. The goal in my work is to help women step into, embrace, and be empowered by their own unique identity.

Deanna Gibson is a gregarious Chicagoland based photographer/artist. As a commercial photographer she has been published in numerous books, magazines, newspapers, marketing materials, advertisements both on and off-line. As an artist she has enjoyed many group gallery shows as well as solo shows. Her artwork consists of manipulated photography utilizing imagery she stages and captures. She is often the subject and photographer of her images. Cindy Sherman, Salvador Dali, and Helmut Newton have influenced her work from the beginning. The high relief mixed media works let her explore her love of physical work outside the digital realm. She incorporates her skills of sewing, plaster work, painting, and glitter to create women that seem like they could walk off the wall. If you’re ever in the same room as Deanna, you’ll know it, she’s the one with glitter on her face!

Meditation Session
Thursday, November 3  6:00 PM-7:00 PM CDT

“Between Seeing and Knowing takes as a starting point the artists’ long-standing interest in and in-depth study of Tibetan Buddhist thangka paintings,” which contain numerous symbols and pictures but flow together into one whole experience – a reflection of our inter-connectedness. In connection with the exhibit, there will be a 25-40 minute meditation period offered on Thursdays by Zen River Sangha. No experience is needed. Chairs and cushions will be provided. For those new to meditation, there will be an optional introduction to meditation at the beginning of each session. Wear loose, comfortable clothing. Turn off cell phones. Experience the quietness of just being in the flow of art and life.
