East End United e-blast

Sunday Worship October 30th, 2022 10:30am
All Soul's Day and Out of the Cold Program Blessing
Online & in-person at EEU Glen Rhodes Campus 1470 Gerrard Str. E

The service will be marking two quite different but also connected themes:  We'll be observing 'All Souls' day -- a commemoration of the losses many of us (and the world) have endured. It could be a loved one just in the past year or someone long ago; it could be the loss of a dream, a job, a relationship, or something entirely different. It's a moment to pause, remember, and give thanks within your faith family with prayers, songs, and the lighting of candles. For those online, please have a  candle (wax or battery-operated handy), and we'll share our prayers together.  In addition, we'll be hearing an update from Gloria on the Out of the Cold program that serves many in our community that have lost so much.  OOTC begins the first Friday of November, and our dialogue with Gloria will include a time to offer prayers, blessing and support for this ministry.

Join us in welcoming Brian Elcombe, Nourish East End's new Resource Manager
Nourish East End, formerly known as the Glen Rhodes Foodbank, has a long and valued history, built on the efforts of decades of volunteers. As we work to ensure Nourish’s sustainability as a vehicle to offer radical hospitality to our community, we have begun to hire staff and secure grants to support these volunteer efforts.

Nourish East End is very pleased to announce the hiring of Brian Elcombe as Resource Manager, a part-time role that will support volunteer scheduling and training, as well as the ordering and rotation of food stocks. Nourish East End is delighted to recognize Brian’s long history of volunteer achievement at Nourish East End, formerly Glen Rhodes Foodbank, with this hiring.

Brian Elcombe (he/him) builds collaboration in both his professional and volunteer life, bringing together teams to work collaboratively. As a volunteer with Nourish East End (formerly the Glen Rhodes Foodbank), he has played a leading role in helping to recruit, train and manage volunteers, increasing his administrative role since 2014. His experience in supporting the operations of the free food market, a Daily Bread Food Bank partner, and his commitment to respond to all members of our community with respect and dignity bridge the past and present of our program and will be invaluable as Nourish East End continues to evolve.
December 10th, 2022 at 7pm at EEU Eastminster Camps: Under a Winter's Moon
IUAWM Tour 2022 – East End United - Bulletin Copy – D4 - Oct25-2022 – LM-DS

On Saturday, December 10, we’re honoured to have Juno Award-winning Canadian artist Loreena McKennitt coming to our own East End United Church, to perform her Under A Winter’s Moon seasonal concert.

This old-fashioned concert of words and music blends Christmas and nature, Celtic and Indigenous all together. It will wrap around you like a warm blanket on a cold winter’s night. Blending the evocative, ethereal voice of Loreena McKennitt with the tender and nostalgic images so beautifully summoned through Cedric Smith’s narration of A Child’s Christmas in Wales, the evening’s pleasures will melt your heart and perhaps even add to your own Christmas memories. McKennitt will also be joined by her long-time musical companion, British cellist Caroline Lavelle, Celtic band The Bookends, percussionist Graham Hargrove, and Ojibway artist and flautist Jeffrey “Red” George.

McKennitt’s eclectic Celtic blend of pop, folk and world music has sold over 14 million albums worldwide, in 15 countries across four continents, and she has performed in some of the world’s most-respected and historic venues.
