Apollo's recent visit
Apollo Saku, the Ugandan director of Planting for Hope Uganda  seen here with CEO Kate Oakley, has spent the last 4 weeks in the UK.

He has had a hectic time updating supporters about the development, future projects and needs of Cornerstone school and consolidating bonds with friends.
Rotary award
On October 6th Apollo received the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship award from Bewdley and Kinver Rotary 1060.

The award was given for his unwavering dedication to the development of education and student wellbeing at Cornerstone school and for the health and medical care of the surrounding Kititi community in Uganda.

Thank you Apollo for the continuing support and hope that you give to the Ugandan community in Kititi.

Huge thanks to Bewdley and Kinver rotary for their ongoing support.

News from Cornerstone school and Kititi village

Young readers in their new school library room. The children have a real love of reading and are learning about things they don't get in Uganda like dinosaurs and snow.
A school in Switzerland has raised monies for the library furniture. The charity will be working hard to raise funds to buy books to stock the library.
Teacher Training

a 4 day workshop was held to teach how to include phonics in the children's curriculum to improve reading.
Dr Baker and Nurse Betty continue to provide health treatment in the village. In particular they have been emphasing the importance of always getting safe water from the boreholes put in place by the charity, using the pit toilet and hand washing. This health programme has resulted in a remarkable decline iin illnesses related to poor hygiene.
The coffee crop has shown its first returns on investment, a step in the right direction towards self suffiency. Another 5 acres have been planted.

The women's cooperative goes from strength to strength. As it is the rainy season they are planting maize from which the children's daily porridge is made.
