A message from Dennis Johns, our Family Minister:
Operation Christmas Child
Samaritan’s Purse has collected shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for children around the world. Since 1993, more than 198 million children in more than 170 countries and territories have received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox. The project delivers not only the joy of what, for many kids, is their first gift ever, but also gives them a tangible expression of God’s love.
Tens of thousands of volunteers from local churches around the world partner together to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ at various festive outreach events where children are gifted shoeboxes full of exciting surprises.
For the past few years FBCTC has participated by assembling boxes for Operation Christmas Child with donations through Samaritan’s Purse online portal. This year FBCTC will participate in a touchable way by providing opportunities for you, along with family, friends, co-workers, small groups, neighborhood groups or your Sunday School class, to pack a box full of love.
How do you get involved? Well, pick up a “How to Pack a SHOEBOX” brochure from the welcome desk and decorate a shoebox or use a provided box also available at the welcome desk. The brochure has helpful information about how and what to put into the box and serves as a label to indicate the age and gender of its recipient. A $10 donation per box is critical to cover shipping, and other project costs can be made to Samaritan’s Purse. There is even an opportunity to “Follow Your Box” to discover the destination of your shoebox. Once it’s filled with goodies, love, and prayer, you can return it to FBCTC on or before Wednesday, November 16.
If you want to know more, check out the website samaritanspurse.org/occ. There are some exciting testimonies of children experiencing the joy of the gospel through the gifts they receive. There are many ways of being involved in sharing the gospel this Christmas Season. May God bless you as you choose your method of participation.
