Call for Peace Building and Violence Prevention Applications
The mission of the Center for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention is to promote research, education, and outreach dedicated to the study and prevention of violence in global and local contexts. The Peace Building and Violence Prevention Program is designed to provide funding for faculty-led projects that advance all three areas of that mission. Two one-year projects will be funded for up to $15,000, and the funding period will be from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023. Click here for details.

AFSP Calls for Distinguished Investigator Innovation Grants
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is a volunteer organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education, and advocacy. It is accepting applications for its Distinguished Investigator Innovation grants program, which will provide grants of up to $150,000 over two years to investigators at the level of associate or full professor with an established record of research and publication in the area of suicide. Meta 2022 Calls for Foundational Integrity Research
Meta is offering awards to global social science researchers interested in exploring integrity issues related to social communication technologies. Meta will provide a total of $1,000,000 in funding for research proposals that aim to enrich an understanding of challenges related to integrity issues on social media and social technology platforms. The goal is to support the growth of scientific knowledge and to contribute to a shared understanding on how social technology companies can better address integrity issues on their platforms. Call for 2023 Seed Grants in Rural Education
The Center for Rural Education is taking applications for seed grants up to $6,000 to foster broad involvement across Virginia Tech to engage in scholarship designed to support the overall health and wellness of rural schools and communities. Topics of interest may include policy and funding; health and wellness; partnerships and community relationships; teacher and leader preparation, recruitment and retention; college and career trajectory; or spatial and educational equity. Call for Japanese Studies Fellowship Applications
The Japan Foundation was established to cultivate friendship and ties between Japan and the world by creating global opportunities to foster friendship, trust, and mutual understanding through culture, language, and dialogue. To that end, the foundation’s Japanese Studies Fellowship Program will support outstanding scholars, researchers, and other professionals interested in conducting research in Japan. Call for Anthropological Conference and Workshop Grant
The Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research is asking for applications to award grants to support meetings and events that promote the development of inclusive communities of anthropologists and advance significant and innovative research. The program also aims to help organizers make conferences and workshops more inclusive and accessible by covering costs for scholars who might not otherwise be able to attend. NSF SBE Calls for Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Applicants
The Directorate for Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE) offers Postdoctoral Research Fellowships to encourage independence early in the fellow's career by supporting their research and training goals. The research and training plan must address important scientific questions within the scope of the SBE directorate and the specific guidelines in this solicitation. Proposals must now be submitted using Research.gov or Grants.gov, as FastLane proposals are no longer accepted. Click here for details.

Call for Research Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE)

The IUSE: Education and Human Resources (EHR) program is a core NSF STEM program that seeks to promote novel, creative, and transformative approaches to generating and using new knowledge about STEM teaching and learning to improve STEM education for undergraduate students. It also seeks to support projects that have high potential for broader societal impacts, including improved diversity of students and instructors participating in STEM education, and professional development for instructors to ensure adoption of new and effective pedagogical techniques. Save the Date -- Presentation on Whole Health Research -- Nov. 15th
As Virginia Tech develops a new Whole Health Research Initiative as part of the Health Frontier, the Institute for Society, Culture, and Environment is bringing Tracy Gaudet, MD, past Executive Director of the Veterans Health Administration's National Office of Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation, to campus November 15-17 for a series of meetings. Gaudet will offer a public presentation on transformative whole health care on Tuesday, November 15th from 2:00-3:00 p.m. in the Fralin Hall Auditorium. All are welcome to attend. Webinar: When States Come Out -- A Gender Equity Series Event
On Oct. 31 from 11 am - 12:30 pm, the Center for European Union, Transatlantic, and Trans-European Space Studies welcomes Phillip M. Ayoub for a talk titled "When States Come Out: Transnational Movements & the Diffusion of LGBTI Rights in Europe." In the last two decades, the LGBTI movement has gained momentum that is unprecedented in speed and suddenness when compared to other human rights movements. This talk investigates the recent history of this transnational movement in Europe. Registration is required to this free event. Click here for details.

Winter 2023 NAEP Data Training Workshop Applications Requested

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), and the American Institutes for Research (AIR), are offering a 3-day workshop aimed at quantitative researchers with strong statistical skills who want to learn to conduct analysis using data from the NAEP. Fully funded, the workshop will be held in Arlington, VA, on January 12-14, 2023. The deadline to submit an application is November 6, 2022. Click here for details.

Webinar to Learn How to Use New Environmental Justice Index
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Environmental Justice (OEJ), is offering a webinar that will teach attendees how to use the new Environmental Justice Index (EJI). The EJI is the first national, place-based tool designed to measure the cumulative impacts of environmental burden through the lens of human health and health equity. Please register in advance. NSF's New Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (TIP)
The Office of Research and Innovation presents a seminar on November 10 at 4:00pm, for faculty at all stages of their careers to learn more about NSF TIP and how it may be used to support current and future extramural funding.  An in-person seminar followed by a reception will be hosted at the Executive Briefing Center, Virginia Tech Research Center, in Arlington, VA, with a virtual option available. Call for 2023 Golden Goose Award Nominations
The Golden Goose Awards recognize federally funded research that may sound odd, obscure, or serendipitous, but it ends up having a major impact on society. Many social and behavioral scientists have been recipients in the past and honored at the annual ceremony in Washington, D.C. Nominations should be submitted by December 18, 2022. Nominations Open for the 2023 SAGE-CASBS Award
The Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS) at Stanford University and SAGE Publishing are accepting nominations for the 2023 SAGE-CASBS Award, which recognizes accomplishments in the behavioral and social sciences that push the boundaries of our understanding of social issues. In addition to a cash prize, the winner will deliver a public lecture at CASBS in spring 2023. The deadline for nominations is December 9, 2022. Click here for details.
