Dear Ones,

“No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us.” This verse was read last week on Confirmation Sunday.  Each day we bear the image of Christ as we interact with one another. While we show up in many ways to share this love of God, your strong financial support this past year has illuminated God’s love in our community, thank you!

Through your generous giving, we have been able to share God’s love with the community.  We have opened our doors and hearts to people through the Juneteenth event, a community Easter celebration on the front lawn and this weekend’s trunk or treat event. We welcomed almost 500 people through the church for Open House Chicago several weekends ago. We’ve reengaged families and strengthened our youth and children’s ministry. We’ve reflected on how we live out our faith in our daily lives. I’m grateful and thankful for the ministry we’ve done together over the last year.

And there are new dreams to be realized. Last week, 65 leaders came together to talk about who we are as a church, what we care about, and where we’re going.  We’ve begun the important work that the Holy Spirit will use to direct our ministry in this coming year.

While we will continue to strengthen our ministries, outreach and worship, new possibilities for LMC are beginning to shine. What are our ideas and how can we put them into action? Our theme this year is “Grace in Action. Through our love for God, one another, and the world, we are ushering in God’s grace in action.”

As we live into our ministry in 2023, we need to fund it. Our ministry depends on your faithful financial support. In the next few weeks, you will receive an invitation to offer a pledge or a statement of financial intention for the coming year. Being able to count on your financial support helps the LMC Church Council to plan for the year to come.

This is a time of change and transition as a society, what a time to be able to make a mark on the world around us, what a time to be the church!

With grace and gratitude,
Pastor Lindsay

All Saints Sunday and the Book of Life

On All Saints Sunday, we remember our dear ones who have died. We’ll invite you during the service to come forward and light a candle in memory of your beloved. You are also invited to write the names of those who have died in the Book of Life to be read during worship. In addition to remembering people who have died, we also remember hopes and plans that we have lost. It is a Sunday to remember that which we grieve. And yet, we come together in worship with the presence of all the saints who have gone before us who have grieved and rejoiced, who have built up and taken down, who have longed for and imagined what can be. We remember that we are a part of God’s story which is wider and longer than our singular lives.
