Ponderings

Who are the special people in your life? Fred Rogers, aka Mr. Rogers, said, “All of us have special ones who have loved us into being.” Who has loved you into being?

Who are the people who have been or are saints in your life? Can you recall people who helped shape you into the person you are right now? Teachers, pastors, relatives, neighbors, and friends…People who cared about you, believed in you, and supported your dreams.

This Sunday during worship we will be remembering our saints of the church – the people who have passed away since our last All Saints’ celebration. Some of the folks will be familiar, others not so; all were part of The Palms.

We will also be recalling people who have died this past year who are not part of The Palms but who played crucial roles in our lives: friends, neighbors, relatives, pastors, teachers.

Remembering and giving thanks – do some remembering this week and give thanks!

Shalom, Paul

A: Boil the hell out of it.

A: The spiritual director.

Person: What is a million years like to you?
God: Like one second.
Person: What is a million dollars like to you?
God: Like one penny.
Person: Can I have a penny?
God: Just a second.

Q: Why did the priest giggle during his homily?
A: He had Mass hysteria!

I was going to tell you about all the drama at the convent, but then remembered it’s nun of your business.

A priest is driving and gets stopped for speeding. The state trooper smells alcohol on the priest’s breath and then sees an empty wine bottle on the floor of the car.
He says, “Father, have you been drinking?”
“Just water,” says the priest, fingers crossed.
The trooper says, “Then why do I smell wine?” The priest looks at the bottle and says, “Praise be to God! He’s done it again!”

A Palm Reader's Look into the Future

This Sunday we will be remembering our saints who have passed away since our last All Saints’ celebration. I will be in the pulpit. Read Luke 19:1-10. Zacchaeus is the patron saint of tree climbers! Who are the folks out on a limb in your life? How can we help them?

Sign up to be an usher.

Registration for our 19th annual interreligious conference is still open. It will take place November 4 & 5.

Check the church calendar for upcoming events.

We'll be celebrating both Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day at The Palms. We're inviting the community to join us for a meal on Thanksgiving. Be on the lookout for opportunities to donate food and to volunteer to help. Christmas Day is a Sunday and both Pastor Jim and I will be leading worship – we hope you can join us.

"Would you just take, along with me, 10 seconds to think of the people who have helped you become who you are, those who cared about you and wanted what was best for you in life."
