Athlete Spotlight: Ethan Peregrym

Age: 13
Discipline: Middle Distance
Coach: Sean Lehmann

Why did you become involved in track and field?
I got a pamphlet that told me about the club and asked if I wanted to join. I thought it looked interesting so I joined. Since then I have really enjoyed it.

What events do you enjoy?
I like anything from 1,500m to 10,000m.

What is your greatest accomplishment/s?
My biggest accomplishment is finishing third at high school provincials in the 3,000m and setting a big personal best of 9:55.21 at the same time. Another accomplishment is finishing in the top quarter of the high school cross country provincials last year as a grade 8 competing against grade 9's and 10's.

A few words from Coach Sean Lehmann:
"Ethan is a very hard worker and extremely dedicated to his training.  He puts in lots of time on his own, which is necessary to be a strong distance runner.  He runs well above his age level and is a great addition to the group."

Welcome Coaches

We are pleased to announce that the following individuals attended the BC Athletics Run, Jump, Throw, Wheel course in October and are now able to assist with our Mini Track Rascal and Track Rascal programs:

Anika Owens
Mia Sage
Danica Renwick
Thomas Heer
Paige Planden
Karissa Chung

Welcome, and thank you for giving back to the little ones! We are happy to have you aboard.

Housekeeping

  • KTFC is seeking a Club Secretary who can attend board meetings once a month, create an agenda and record meeting minutes. Email Judy Armstrong at judy54armstrong@gmail.com if you are interested.
  • Are you interested in becoming a track and field official? Track and field is facing a shortage of officials due to an aging population and the aftermath of COVID. Officials play an integral part in being able to host competitions and offer opportunities for athletes at a more local level. In addition to it being a fulfilling job, officials get a front seat view to the action. Parents can watch their child up close while contributing to the quality of the event. Please email Greg Nicol at gregorylnicol136@gmail.com if you would like to pursue this opportunity.
