Class of 2023 & 2024

• Please bid in OLR! Round 1 ends Monday Oct 31 at 12 noon PT.
• Reminder: It does not matter when you bid in Round 1, just that you remember to bid!
• Round 2 is Monday Oct 31, 4PM PT-Friday Nov 4, 12 noon PT
  • Round 2 is open to those students with units or bid points remaining after Round 1 (e.g. unsuccessful bids from Round 1 or those who forgot to bid in Round 1 (don't be that person!)).

• Final tips:
  • Review the Bidding Process Overview.
  • Class of 2024, review the 2nd Year Advising slides (recordings by advisor on our website).
  • Review your top choice(s) and the Spring 2023 Elective Schedule.
  • Ensure class meeting dates do not conflict (refer to Spring 2023 Academic Calendar, and also pay close attention to the Sunday 1 Unit dates).

Announcements

• If you normally park in Underhill, N/W Permits will only be valid on Underhill Levels 3 & 4 on game days. Games are in the evening (6 or 7PM) on the following dates: Nov 2, 7, 21, 30; Dec 7, 10.
• The area immediately around Haas is not affected, please expect traffic along Bancroft Ave to Downtown Berkeley on game days.

• Friday Nov 11: Veterans Day (Saturday Classes will still be held on Nov 12 and Program Office will be open.)
• Wednesday Nov 23-Sunday Nov 27: Thanksgiving Holiday

• Billl Rindfuss, Executive Director, Strategic Programs, Haas Finance Group, and CMG would like to share a course via Training the Street.
• Corporate Valuation: A Primer to Real-World Methodologies will cover practical examples and real-world exercises to illustrate the fundamentals of popular valuation techniques used by finance practitioners.
• The session is open to all MBA/EWMBA students, but please register for the Corporate Valuation course only if you know that you can attend. Review the one pager for the Corporate Valuation course here.

Class of 2025

• The Spring 2023 Core Schedule is now available.
• Blue & Gold, please also note that 203 Intro to Finance will still meet over Spring Break as a Combined Cohort Day on Monday Mar 27. 

• The testing window will be in Dec 2022, following the same process as Fall 2022 waiver exams.
• Review the Waiver Exam Guidelines > Spring for specifics, including what documentation to provide for courses eligible for automatic waiver (e.g. 202 Financial Reporting, 203 Intro to Finance).

Saturday Scoop

• This week's Program Office staff will be Amanda Gill and Allison Kuo, our Student Assistant. Drop by S440 and say hello!

• Park in the University Extension or Genetics Lot!
• Piedmont Ave and Stadium Rim Way close 2 hours before kick-off, so ~10AM this week.
• Carpool or take public transportation if possible.
• Complete Football Saturday Logistics here.

• Pedestrian and vehicle traffic starts around 5PM and lasts through 7PM.
• While you should be able to park in Berkeley Law Lot, please be advised that Bowles will be closed and there will be increased pedestrian traffic in the area.

Student Groups

• Elections are held for the positions of President, Executive Vice President, EVP Marketing & EVP Finance (all other VP roles are selected by the new team in Jan 2023). 
  • Submit candidacy materials to ewmbaa-haas@berkeley.edu by Tuesday Nov 1 by 11:59PM PT.
  • List of candidates will be published in next week’s Bear Necessities.
  • There will be a campaigning period and voting will run Nov 7-13.
  • You may run and campaign as a team, but each position is elected separately.

Story 2: Your Story: Tell Me About Yourself

• Come learn how to get your interview off to a great start by learning to craft and structure your response to the infamous "Tell Me About Yourself" question in this step by step process.
• In this highly interactive workshop, you will:

  • Have opportunities to practice
  • Get feedback and refine
  • You will leave with a first draft of your TMAY!

Sustainability Panel
Tuesday Nov 8, 6-7PM PT

• Come join us as we chat with Haas Alumni who have been in the sustainability space, and will give you a sense of what it is like, and what it takes to move into this exciting area. All are welcome, from those who are just wanting to explore to those who are starting to get clarity on which roles and industries in sustainability they are interested in. 

• Hands-on demonstration of how to navigate and utilize the CMG website and CMG Bears site by Taylor Stern and Zhilian Liu, VPs of CMG. They will walk you through the tips and tricks on where to find and effectively use CMG resources. There will also be time for Q&A so bring your questions!

Events

• Come join us as the LA Chapter explores the beautiful Hastain Trail in Franklin Canyon park in Beverly Hills! You'll get in some steps, take in the picturesque views of DTLA and Culver City, and gather for a group picture on the bluff overlooking the city. Register for the LA hike here.

• Join us for the 4th Annual CALpital Connections with Cal Alumnus Robert Paylor. In the 2017 Collegiate Rugby National Championship, playing for Cal, Robert broke his neck and his life changed in an instant.
