October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month
At the Elkins Public Library, we work hard on digital inclusion for our community. While the internet provides countless amounts of value, there are also risks to the online world. Being aware of these risks is the first step in making sure that your home, family, and business is safe from cyber threats. This could include everything from phishing financial records to people with bad intentions using online platforms to entice in-person interactions.
We offered a cybersecurity seminar in August and would like to offer more in the coming months. Our blog also includes an easy to understand blog from our own Eve Owen, who is an IT expert, about "Cyber and You." We hope you will take time to read that blog and employ the recommended measures in your home, organization, or business.

Booksale update
We and the Friends of the Elkins Public Library want to thank everyone who was involved in the Fall Booksale. Between donations, book sales, and concessions, Friends made $629 that will go to support Library programs.
We appreciate everyone who helped manage the sale, including sales and organizing all the books into genre before the sale began. We got many positive comments that being able to browse by genre made the sale so much better!
We always accept book donations that go to our spring and fall booksales and our in-library sales. We can't accept encyclopedias or periodicals. Bring the donated items in during library hours.
Thank you again for helping make this sale a success!

New Seminar Series-Can you teach?
We are very excited about a new seminar series coming in 2023! Friends of the Elkins Public Library and Elkins Community Network are partnering to present regularly scheduled seminars and workshops. The topics will range from community fun topics such as fly fishing to business-related topics such as how to start a business or social media tips. We are still working on the details and will share more soon! Friends members will get a discount on any seminars that have a cost.
Here is where you come in! Is there a topic you're an expert in (or really, really smart) that you're willing to teach? We want to hear from you! Also, while we already have a good list of topics, we would love your input on a potential seminar or class that you think the community would enjoy. Email info@elkinsar.org to offer your expertise or input!
