Patrol Start this weekend!

Patrols kick off this weekend with McDonald Patrol on Saturday and Leevers Patrol on Sunday.
Both patrols run from 9am to 1pm as traditionally we only operate one patrol per day in October.

If you intend patrolling this season but haven’t informed your Patrol captain yet, please do so as soon as possible so we can ensure that we have coverage across the patrol teams.

You can find your team and roster on your Lifesaving online account and the final teams will be published tomorrow on team app and the website.

Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club WA & leading ocean performance brand Vaikobi have agreed a 3-year partnership that will see the Vaikobi brand and product range promoted extensively at the club.

Under the agreement Vaikobi has agreed to provide its world class performance apparel range to Sorrento Surf Club members, with the club also planning to soon promote and stock the Vaikobi range within its online and retail store.

In addition, Vaikobi will provide strong support for the junior ski ahtletes who are developing their surf and paddle skills to ensure Sorrento remains one of Australia’s leading Surf Life Saving Clubs.

“We are excited to be partnering with Vaikobi, a world leader in surf sports apparel and we look forward to working together to continue the development of our great club,” said Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club President Ron Morris.

Vaikobi Founder and CEO Patrick Langley commented that “I have been incredibly impressed with a number of top athletes that have emerged from the Sorrento SLSC club and certainly under the tutelage of Michael BOOTH, I can see that number increasing in the future.
Having visited Sorrento annually during the Shaw and Partners Financial Services WA Race Week each year for over 10 years, Sorrento SLSC feels like my home on the west coast!

The amount of Paddling and surf Life saving activity happening at Sorrento on a daily and weekend basis is incredibly impressive and Vaikobi are thrilled to partner with Sorrento for the next three years and provide our support to this great club.”

About Vaikobi
Founded on the Northern Beaches of Sydney in 2012, Vaikobi came to life through a desire to make apparel and equipment for Surfski paddling, which at that point in time did not exist. After a significant product development program involving a range of top paddlers, Vaikobi hit the market with a fantastic line up of products that were all designed to control body temperature, maximise and performance on the water. This initial line up proved to be a hit and the brand quickly became established within the Surfski paddling community with new dealerships opening up across Australia, NZ, North America and Europe.
Over the years, Vaikobi evolved and expanded the paddling line up of products to today where the line up includes high performing items such as our range of Buoyancy Aids/PFD’s Technical On water apparel, Footwear, Sunglasses, Accessories and more which allowed the brand to expand in popularity across a large range of Watersports.

Today, Vaikobi is considered one of the leading paddlesport apparel and accessories brands in the world with the products sold through the large dealer network and as well as online at www.vaikobi.com

Vaikobi’s sailing range is now hugely popular in Australia where we the brand is the most established. Over the past 18 months, Vaikobi has been growing in popularity in the UK and Europe and more recently in USA sailing circles as the distribution continues to expand internationally. Vaikobi is the official Technical Clothing Partner to the USA Sail GP Team which provides us with some feedback from some of the world’s best professional sailors.
Now distributed in over 23 countries through over 180+ dealers, Vaikobi continues to expand the product line up and distribution from their Australian and European locations and is looking forward to continuing the Global expansion of this Australian brand.

Youth News
(Under 14 - Under 19)

Sunday Session 16th October Recap
Well, the weather didn’t arrive on Sunday! After being spoilt last season, it was a return back to our normal season starts with a decent SSW keeping everyone on the beach chilled. Despite this we had a RECORD 102 youth check-in!! From a parent’s perspective the morning probably looked a little chaotic. But we did have a plan.

Great to see our development ski squad out on the water early and four of our newest to join the development squad on the Ergo’s with Leanne. Also, the beachies out early! And awesome to have nearly all our youth complete the club swim and being joined by a good squad of masters!

With the club swim done we recognised our newest Bronzies (10) and SRC’s (23) that completed their courses over the school holidays. It also was a chance to thank our Youth [Bridget, Sophie, Georgie, Keely and Austin] and Parent trainers that delivered the training to our SRC’s.

An initial U14’s Team Leo vs U15’s Plus Team Austin was narrowly taken out by Team Austin but feel that the U14’s might blame the parents that were assigned to helping them on the deciding pull…. Sorry Leo.
Looking at the surveys that were completed by the U15-U17’s on Sunday there are a growing number of our youth that want to develop their involvement in the SLS by pursuing the Youth Leadership programs offered by SLSWA and Sorrento this season which is fantastic.

Thanks, Tim, for taking the U14’s through the club and youth equipment orientation and Nicole / Deb for running through the YIP (Sorrento Youth Incentive Program) and YLP programs that we offer. I’m sure there are a lot of questions, so please don’t hesitate to email or message us. We will have a survey available for the U14’s this coming weekend for you to express your interests and goals.

We hope to see everyone back Sunday. With the orientation done we will be getting into a more normal Sunday Session where the activities on offer are split across several arenas. Expect to work on lifesaving skills, boards, swim and team events and challenges.

Good luck to our competitors
To all our Youth that are competing in the WA Iron Series #1 Race at City Beach this coming Sunday, good luck!

SRC Patrols
An email has been sent to all of our youth that recently completed the SRC. Your caps will be available this coming Sunday. Please make sure you are there to take it. And good luck to all our new SRC’s that are starting their patrol this coming weekend.

Nippers
(Under 6 - Under 13)

What a huge weekend it was down at Sorrento to kick off the first day of Nippers for the U10 to U13 age groups.

Firstly I’d like to again welcome all our new families to Sorrento and wish you all an enjoyable season along with our returning families. It was a great turn out to in less-than-ideal conditions!

NRC
Saturday morning 40 of our nipper parents and guardians received their  NRC (Nipper Rescue Certificate) This course is an introductory level qualification that gives its recipients the ability to assist with water safety at Woodside Nipper mornings and at training sessions. Congratulations to all of you!

Thank you to Ian Smallwood who took the course along with parents who assisted with water safety, without your involvement these integral courses for the Junior program don’t happen.

Age Manager Inservice
After the NRC course completion, we then had our yearly in-service. Over 50 of our awesome Assistant Age Managers gave up their morning to get familiar with the basics in teaching our Nippers in surf skills, board paddling, beach flags, and beach sprints along with the important information for member protection.

This information gives our Assistant Age Managers the tools to make our Nippers feel safe and enjoy our program. Thank you to Andrew Ridley for running the course along with Aaron Bell, Bill Hughes and Tai Kirkpatrick for their presentations and last but not least  Anthony Chin and Darren Bender for cooking bacon and egg burgers and our cafe staff for the amazing coffee.

This Sunday we welcome our Little Nippers our U8 and U9 age groups we look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

See you on the beach
