 Dear PVUMC Family,

“The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these” (Mark 12: 31).
We all know that the first is “You shall love your God.” Today, I just brought up the second one, “love your neighbor.” One thing that I want to emphasize is “as yourself.” In order to love our neighbors, we have to love ourselves first. "Loving ourselves" doesn't mean any narcissistic love to ourselves, but it means self-respect because of God’s image we have in us. My body is not mine, because my body is made in God’s image. That’s why we should use our body for the glory of God. As much as we respect ourselves, we can love our neighbors as ourselves. If we fail to respect ourselves, it is not possible to respect our neighbors as ourselves. We should love ourselves, because we are not ours but God’s. Then, we can love our neighbors as ourselves. Do you love yourself? Do you respect your life? If so, you can love and respect your neighbor.

This coming Sunday, 10/23, is our 128th anniversary. Please plan to come to church to celebrate God’s blessings for 128 years in our church. When we invite our friends for birthday parties, they come to celebrate together. It is the same. It is the birthday of our church. We can invite our friends to come to celebrate with us. We will have our anniversary service at 11AM. After the Service, we will have lunch together. We will do a pot-luck lunch. You can bring your dishes to share with our church family, or if you are not able to bring food, do not worry. The church will prepare foods for you and we will have enough foods to share together. You will remember. After Jesus blessed the five loaves of bread and two fish, there were 12 buckets leftover after the meal. We will experience this blessing this Sunday. Please come to church this Sunday. Also, we will wrap up the ministry of “Hygiene Kits for Women in Prison” this coming Sunday. Special thanks go to our Mission Committee.

I would like to recognize a special thank you to our United Methodist Men (UMM, Chairperson: Sam Barnum). We had our Fish Fry last Friday. It was the first Fish Fry after the pandemic. Many hands came and helped the Fish Fry. Thank you so much. All income will be reserved for the Frank Sorrow Scholarship Fund.

Last Sunday, we had the Laity Sunday. Thank you so much for all your efforts to worship God on Laity Sunday. Thank you to our Worship Committee for planning the Laity Sunday Service.

Below are ministries in October. Please plan to participate in these ministries.

Wednesday Prayer Meeting: Wed, 7PM

We should love ourselves because of God’s love for us. Loving ourselves means to respect our lives because of God. As much as we love and respect ourselves, we will love our neighbors as ourselves. We can pray to ask God to help us to love and respect ourselves first. Then, we shall love our neighbors as ourselves.

Love in Christ,
Eugene
