It's been a while, but the eNews is back (with a vengeance), with a packed edition of info about the forthcoming events and next season's shenanigans.
After a wholly successful National Championships and 2022 fixtures, the class moves on to the season's finale at South Staffs Sailing Club for the Winter Championships.
Also in this bumper addition we have a sneak preview of the Lark Class AGM, a review of the 2022 season & Nationals and see what Larks are out there For Sale

2022 Winters Championships: South Staffs SC, 5th/6th Nov
- Five races, four to count. First race 11am. Briefing 10:30am.
- Entry fee is £40 and payable at the event by credit or debit card. Cash payment will not be accepted.
- Camping on site is allowed, encouraged and free.
- Massive Social event with a Band and Hog Roast planned and included in the Entry Price!!
Online entry is required in advance.
Please complete before setting off to the club!!
South Staffs is the biggest Lark club in the country, offering great hospitality and competitive, often challenging racing. It's great value too, so come and join in the fun!

2022 BELLE ISLE SEASON REVIEW
Hydons win the 2022 Lark Travellers series
Stuart and Nick Hydon have won the 2022 Musto Lark Travellers’ Trophy series. The established father and son pairing win the coveted Belle Isle Trophy, past winners of which is a ‘Who's Who?’ of top Lark sailors. That Stuart won it for a record 8th time makes it even more impressive.
The Belle Isle series has run for decades and this year comprised 10 events across a variety of sea, estuary and lake venues – with the best 5 results to count.
The Hydons were quick out of the blocks, winning the first three events (the Winters and the double-header of South Staff/Barnt Green), following this up with 2nd at Rock, 5th at the Nationals and 1st in the final event at Itchenor, to count only 6 points.
However, they didn’t have it all their way. The race to be runner-up could not have been closer with two teams finishing equal on 12 pts. Just edging it on countback were Matt White & Marion Enkel, who counted their impressive 1st at the National Championships and 1st at Banbury, along with 2nd, 3rd, 5th at Barnt Green, Waldringfield and South Staffs.
The podium was completed by John & Vicky Brickwood, who took 1st at Rock, 2nd at both Frensham and Salcombe Week, 3rd at the Nationals and 4th at Itchenor.
Past winners Steve Cumley and Eluned Stewart were the best of the rest in 4th place, edging out newcomers to the Top 6, Jonny Coate and Kate Phillips. Last year’s winners Sam Bailey and Finn Morgan came 6th counting four Top 5 places along the way, showing how difficult it is to win and retain this trophy.
An impressive 59 boats took part in the series.
The class hopes to see all Lark sailors when the 2023 series kicks off with a bang (literally, being Guy Fawkes night) on 5-6 November at South Staffs.

BOOK YOUR ACCOMMODATION FOR ROCK & BRIXHAM 2023!
It’s not too early to book that accommodation for Brixham and to search out that perfect and affordable flat near the sailing club!.
Also, Rock lovers will be pleased to hear that we will again be going to Rock in 2023 – in the usual early-May slot – which promises to be a great event, with the usual sun, sand and sea. Now John Bray have changed their system there is no priority for people booking last year, so properties are filling up fast.
While it’s not the agent in town, John Bray have the widest selection.
The full 2023 fixtures list is almost ready and will be released in the coming weeks - watch this space!!

2022 NATIONALS STATISTICS REVIEW
Back in June the class enjoyed one of the best Nationals in recent times.
What happened...well the stats can speak for themselves.
- 75% increase in number of entrants (20 > 35)
- Gold, Silver and Bronze fleets prizes
- Duckhams prize was back and well represented!!
- Full on socials programme, with awesome fancy dress attendance
- Demo boat being sailed by u25 competition winners
- Youngest ever participants (6yrs) and first ever 3-up entrants.
- Record number of first time national participants
- New master and apprentice trophy presented.
- Over $1,500 of Musto Prizewear handed out.
- Great atmosphere across the event
- Another great selection of photographs taken
- and the sun shone.... well most of the time!
- Same again next year ... #Brixham23 here we come.
