Dear Church Family,

Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is a project of Samaritan's Purse, an international relief organization. The mission is to provide local partners worldwide with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies to reach children in their communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. These simple gifts will ship outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S. OCC has delivered gift-filled shoeboxes to over 168 million children in more than 100 countries.

OCC Shoeboxes are an excellent way to continue our legacy of missions and minister to those who are hurting. We are so committed to OCC that again this year, we are serving as the local collection point for all churches in our area! Shoeboxes are available for pick up in the vestibule beginning October 23rd. We ask that people fill the boxes and return them to the church by Sunday, November 20th. OCC has another option available to participate in this mission. Now they offer the option to "pay-to-pack" online. It is easy. Pay a $25 fee and virtually build the box! Now, a small quantity of organizational housekeeping. The Leadership Council at FBC comprises our pastors, chairs of administrative leadership teams, our Deacon executive committee, and two at-large members. At the end of 2022, Charlie King's term as an at-large member will conclude. Our Constitution and Bylaws state: "Whenever there is a vacancy on the Council with respect to one or more At-Large Members, the Council shall give notice through usual FBC communication channels of its intent to fill the vacancy or vacancies. Any Active Member of FBC may submit the name of a person to serve on the Council as an At-Large Member. Individuals who are in the regular employ of the church (that is, they are scheduled to work at least 20 hrs/wk or more) are not eligible for nomination as an At-Large member of the Council. The Council shall specify the method of submitting nominations, which shall be in writing identifying both the Active Member being nominated and the Active Member making the nomination."

Today we are opening nominations for one At-Large member of the L.C., term to begin January 2023 and end December 2025. A signed written note indicating your desire to nominate a member is the method our CBL prescribes. Nominations may be turned in to the church office in person, via U.S. Mail, or by dropping them in the offering plate. The Nominations period will end on November 20th. At that point, our L.C. will prayerfully deliberate on the candidate to propose to the congregation. On December 1st in The Tie, we will announce the candidate for the at-large position on the L.C. and begin the Candidate Review Period. We will then host a brief, special called meeting on Wednesday, January 11th, at 6 PM in the sanctuary to approve the nominee.

I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday, either in-person or via Livestream, as we welcome Joyful Sound from North Greenville University and hear from their President, Dr. Gene Fant.

It is a joy to be your Pastor,
Pastor Rob
