CFUW GWI POLICY SESSION MEETING NOTICE
CFUW will be holding a Policy Session in preparation for the 2022 GWI Triennial General Assembly. This meeting will be held electronically on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. PACIFIC (6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. EASTERN). This electronic meeting will be webcast over Zoom.  Please note that as this is not a business meeting under the Canada Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, the same timelines do not apply.

Items to be discussed include the following: proposed amendments to the GWI Constitution; proposed policy resolutions; rate of annual dues payable to GWI by NFAs. If available, the slate of GWI candidates for the GWI Board and Committees and the GWI budget will be provided as information items.

While all CUW members are invited to attend the Policy Session, only GWI Supporting Clubs can vote.

Clubs should submit the name of their voting delegate, usually the club president or a member of the club executive, to Brittany Sagriff at memberservices@cfuw-fcfdu.ca by October 27, 2022.

Voting will be done online using Election Buddy, the system which was used at the August 2022 AGM and Policy Session. The club delegate must be able to attend a voter training session on November 1, 2022 at Noon or 7:00pm Eastern time. Your club voting delegate must also be comfortable toggling between zoom, an internet browser and their email account or voting on a separate smart phone or tablet. We recognize that our members have differing levels of comfort with electronic communications and we will make every effort to train members to use the voting platform in advance of the meeting.  Club Presidents who do not feel confident using the ElectionBuddy platform are encouraged to appoint a suitable delegate.

Any questions should be directed to Barb DuMoulin, VP International Relations  at barbdumoulin@gmail.com or if of a parliamentary nature, to Elizabeth Haynes at ehaynes@mnsi.net.

National President, CFUW

Revised CFUW Resolutions Information & Guidelines
The revised document Resolutions Information and Guidelines was accepted by the CFUW Board at their October meeting. This document is invaluable for Clubs when they get involved in the Resolutions process as Proposers of Resolutions and or reacting to proposed Resolutions when they are circulated in March.

Please check the schedule found on page 3 as It outlines steps in the process which are elaborated further on in the document. You may access the complete document here.

The Resolutions Committee planned the workshop of September 22nd to get Clubs thinking about a Resolutions intent and we were delighted that the proposers of the Resolutions of the August 2022 Policy Session could join the workshop and share their experiences. If you missed the workshop you may view it here:

From these numbers, your Club's membership dues invoice will be generated. Click here to learn how to retrieve your Club's invoice. Your Club's dues should be paid by March 31st, 2023.

We encourage early submission of membership payments. All Clubs that pay their dues by March 31st, 2023, will be put into a draw to win a Kindle.

Our speaker on October 22 is Casey Oliver

B.Sc. Science and Psychology, 2014, University of Waterloo
M.A. Counselling Psychology, 2018, University of Western Ontario
M.A. Clinical Psychology, 2021, Lakehead University
Ph.D. Clinical Psychology, 2021-2025, Lakehead University

Casey’s dissertation focuses on sexual violence that is perpetrated through technology against women. She seeks to better understand whether this type of gender-based violence affects both the mental well-being of women and their use of technology. This could have grave implications for their academic and career participation, especially with the increasingly virtual nature of these settings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In turn, this research could inform prevention and response strategies, including platform and government policies.

CFUW is Launching a Pilot Mentoring Program!

We are currently looking for mentees between the ages of 20-40. The purpose of this program is to help young working women as they navigate through their chosen career/educational path. We believe that mentorship is particularly important for young women as Mentors become trusted advisers, coaches, and role models – people who have "been there" and "done that." They support and encourage their Mentees by helping them improve their skills, knowledge, inspiration, and confidence.

Please share if you know a young woman that would be interested in being mentored.

This program is also a great way for young women to forge a network with other like-minded individuals, and provides them with opportunities to expand their knowledge and skill set.

To sign up as a mentee, please fill out this application by October 21, 2022 : Click here!
