Updates from the Curriculum Team

The Carpentries Workbench beta phase has begun! The next phase of testing for the redesigned lesson infrastructure began on Monday 17th October, with the creation of a snapshot of the Data Carpentry Data Analysis and Visualization in R for Ecologists lesson using the Workbench. This snapshot will exist in parallel to the version of the lesson that is using the existing lesson template for almost four weeks, after which active maintenance and development will migrate to the Workbench version of the lesson. Throughout the beta phase, Maintainers, Instructors, and other community members are invited to provide feedback about their experience working with lessons built with the Workbench.

You can follow updates on the rollout of this new lesson infrastructure in the "Dovetail" series on our blog. The latest edition of the Dovetail included a list of the lessons that will be involved in the beta phase, and a schedule for their transitions between now and January 2023.

In-person workshops are back!

The Workshop Administration Team is excited to announce that we are planning to offer in-person workshops. The Core Team created a working group to help identify the steps needed to safely transition back to our "old norm". To help us prepare, you may see a few pilot workshops on the Instructor Signup Sheet. We do hope that you will sign up to teach and share feedback of the experience.

We will be hosting a Themed Community Discussion on Wednesday, 16 November 2022 15:00 UTC and Friday, 18 November 2022 00:00 UTC. Be sure to signup on the Etherpad to be a part of the discussion.
