While most of the home got a fresh coat of paint and new flooring, Jonathan and Mary Faith directed most of their attention and budget towards updating the kitchen and living/dining areas. Mary Faith loves to cook and they enjoy hosting as a couple, so making those areas a place they were proud to welcome their friends and family into was important to them. For their kitchen update, they were able to keep costs reasonable by sticking to primarily cosmetic updates, painting cabinets instead of replacing them, and avoiding structural changes.
Despite the renovation process being fairly seamless, they did run into a few challenges. When they ripped out the old carpet and vinyl on the main floor they found thousands of staples that had to be removed individually before they were able to put down the new flooring. The whole process took hours, but luckily they had help from good friends. On the other hand, they caught a break when it came to refinishing the stairs. Instead of having to install new stair treads and risers, they were shocked to find perfectly good stair treads underneath the old carpet. They were able to save money and time, plus get exactly what they wanted to make the house look more modern!
The Gregorys had so much fun renovating this home, that when it came time to look for a new home they didn’t feel limited in their search, knowing that they could make any changes they wanted! In fact, they’re currently in the middle of their second home renovation. Stay tuned for more info on that!
Until then, you can take a look at the before + after of their renovation at the link below. Thanks to Jonathan and Mary Faith for sharing their renovation story with us!
