Happy fall everyone.

This month we have the pleasure of hearing from UC Berkeley Professor Khiara Bridges, a national scholar on reproductive justice law. Professor Bridges has testified before the US Senate Judiciary Committee, has been quoted by national media outlets, has lectured throughout the country, and has published extensively on both race and reproductive issues. She will be discussing the reproductive justice framework generally, including the topic of disability-selective abortion ban laws - the topic of a recent law review article she published.

As usual, we will start with a brief Q&A/update from the Bench. If you have questions for the Court, or for YCBA, you can email me at president@yolobar.com.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Remote Appearances: The new local rule on remote appearance in Yolo Superior Court is available here.

COVID Restrictions dropped:
Effective March 14th, the Court will be dropping COVID restrictions, including as follows:
  • Masks will not be required (but of course are allowed);
  • All judicial officers will hear cases in their own departments, including jury hardship screening (Commissioner Hohenwarter will move back to D2 for her entire calendar);
  • Social distancing markers and plexiglass will be removed; and
  • Jurors will be able to sit in the jury box rather than dispersed throughout the courtroom.
Optional remote appearance will continue, in accordance with Local Rule 2.4.
