Happy Friday huskies! This week, we feature two special highlights: one from our very own Sherm Center and another from Mosaic! Also, don't forget the hackathon registration for Flexcar closes today!

"I am Kyle Janko, a 4th year Mechanical Engineering and Design major. My roles within the Sherm are Executive Director of Forge and Operations Director of Generate. My favorite thing about both roles is being able to work directly with all of the Sherman Centers members. I truly enjoy meeting the wide range of people involved as well as learning from their different experiences and backgrounds. I also enjoy supporting the mission of the Sherm. My advice to other students is to get involved in the social side of the Sherm, it makes the work more fun and you can meet some really great people!"

✨ Entrepreneurship               Highlight

Marina Watanabe, Ph.D. is the Associate Director of Mosaic, the student entrepreneurship support organization and community. She is passionate about empowering student innovators to enact positive change and making entrepreneurship accessible

At Harvard University, Watanabe received her Ph.D. in Biological and Biomedical sciences. At Brigham and Women's Hospital, she conducted graduate work on developing innovative combination treatments for the treatment of HER2+ breast cancer. In her free time, she spends it trying fun gym courses, creating silly dances, and she loves to volunteer with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) to advocate cancer legislation. Not to mention, she is also working towards her next storytelling event.

Flexcar is hosting their first-ever hackathon, November 5th-6th.
Applications close this Friday!

Extra Credit with Professor Mark Sivak! 📝

Here I share something design or tech related from the week for those looking for just a little extra credit.

As we move into midterm season, I figured everyone could use a pick-me-up so this week I have just the thing, the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards. In this contest, photographers submit 1000s of images to be voted on in several categories. Submission is free and all the proceeds go to conservation as part of a non-profit in the UK. I have a love for the outdoors, and this is a great campaign for conservation that also shows off some very funny and cute animals. So, take a break from studying and enjoy a smile.
