iPad Pro gets M2 power, entry-level iPad ditches the button

APPLE

What's happened?

Apple has announced the iPad Pro with new M2 hardware - while also updating the entry-level iPad with a new design.

Why does it matter?

The refresh means more power - but for those opting for the regular iPad, an increase in price.

What's my take?

There seems to be a relentless update cycle for the iPad. The addition of the M2 processor to the iPad Pro will mean that those who want to use it for work will have more at their fingertips, but it might be wasted on those who just use it for browsing and watching movies (which we suspect is a lot of people).

That's why I'm more interested in the update to the regular iPad. I'm no fan of Apple's tradition of hanging onto old designs for many years - so ditching the old, front-facing Touch ID button and altering the bezels makes me happy, as this is a much better-looking device.

There's a bump in the price, however, so the entry-level iPad is more expensive. But, I'd argue that for most people, this is now a great option rather than taking the much more expensive iPad Pro.

Stunning Spectre is Rolls-Royce's first fully-electric car

ROLLS-ROYCE

What's happened?

Rolls-Royce has taken the wraps off its very first fully-electric car, Spectre. It's every bit as stunning as you'd expect it to be.

Why does it matter?

Rolls-Royce says that it is creating an entirely original class of car in the Ultra-Luxury Electric Super Coupé.

What's my take?

We're seeing a burgeoning range of cars for those who want something a little extra, with the Mercedes EQS, BMW i7 and now this from Rolls-Royce, which will undoubtedly take the luxury crown.

The 320-mile range and impressive 585hp power means it's no slouch and you'll actually be able to get where you need to go.

The design is also pretty modern for a Rolls-Royce, taking something from the Wraith in its coupé aesthetic. But, it will be Rolls' attention to detail and almost limitless customisation that will probably characterise this car. There's no word on the price, but it'll be on the roads in late 2023.

Samsung QE65S95B review: Adding quantum tech to your OLED

SAMSUNG

What's happened?

After nearly a decade of absence from the OLED TV market, Samsung is back to join the party - just with a novel spin on the popular display technology. The S95B sports a new panel design that uses quantum dots - the tech behind its QLED panels - to deliver all the benefits of OLED, combined with purer colours and brighter highlights. The result is QD-OLED, but how does it compare to its now well-established rivals?

Our quick verdict

The Samsung S95B delivers excellent image accuracy, saturated colours and HDR that pops. The smart system is comprehensive, while the gaming features will delight next-gen console owners. The sound system is limited compared to other high-end Samsung TVs, but there’s still onboard Dolby Atmos decoding, and only the lack of Dolby Vision really disappoints. Thanks to some recent price drops, this impressive and cutting-edge QD-OLED TV is definitely one to consider. Read our review.
