Ahh...cold air is here, for a couple of days. Warm weather is coming back. I had a chance to fish on Penns this past week. She is a fickle woman (no offence to my fellow fisherwomem out there). I did not land a fish, I was only fishing dries. Dave Rothrock had the hot hand with 6 total, I think. He got his on dries. A friend Erick, got three on dries. I don't know what I was doing wrong. I got takes but no hook ups. "Gotta Set The Hook" I tell the clients. I should have had a mirror with me, and yelled at myself.

BWO's duns and spinners, Caddis and a small Stimulator were the flies to use. Water was in great shape after the rain.

Fishing and guiding on the Little J was good. Nymphing and Caddis dry fly fishing. The Caddis hatch started around 10 am and died off around 1:00 pm. You could find a group or one here and there feeding. Nymphing and wetfly fishing was good in the afternoon.

Time to fish today locally, and then head back out to central PA guiding. I on fishing a couple with Dave R. Will be  trying to find an Iysonychia or  Fall Caddis hatch.

EASTERN PA

Time to get out. Terrestrials, BWO's, Iyso, Caddis and don't for get to try some spinners. The Manatawny is in great shape, and I will be down there today. I will be searching for rising fish. The Allentown streams are ready to go. The BWO's will start in full force soon.  Good fishing on the Pohopoco with BWO's and nymphing.

Central PA

Finally, some good soaking rain. Penns is in great shape along with Spring. BFC is very low. The owners of the farmhouse told me that it's the lowest they have seen in their 30 years of living there. Little Pine was in good shape and we caught some nice holdover Rainbow. Big Pine was stacked in the Delayed Harvest stretch. The Pine Creek valley streams are all a little above normal, a good thing.

Don't forget streamer fishing.

Juniata/Susquehanna

Rivers are back to normal and fishing well. Good hatches starting on the Lehigh. Water is normal for this type of year.
Dave Rothrock’s trip to Slovenia

SLOVENIA FALL 2022

Like the saying goes, when you get lemons you do your best to make lemonade.  The rain began the night of the second day and it continued for the next 6 days.  My friend Tom was as resourceful as anyone could be and by the sixth day it was time to chase field trout.  “Field trout” you say?  Yup, on this one stream when flooding conditions occur the really large browns leave the stream and move into the flooded fields to feed on worms as they come out of the ground.  Can you imagine a large tail protruding from the water?  Or, even better, browns cruising in only inches of water?  It happens!.  Cast a worm imitation in front of cruising trout, watch the wake approach and, when the wake gets to the fly say “God save the Queen” and set.  Fish on!

Dave also caught an interesting fish in Slovenia. I think it is trying to be a Tiger or a Grayling. Not sure what is going on.
