Importance of Staying Connected
It’s estimated that 1 in 10 Americans 60 years and older have experienced some sort of abuse within the last year. One risk factor that increases your chance of experiencing any type of abuse or neglect is social isolation. Whether it’s a barrier to getting out of your home, a lack of support system, or needing supportive services. The good news is help is out there!
The Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan (AAAWM) partners with many agencies across West Michigan to provide services to help older adults live independently in their homes. AAAWM covers Allegan, Ionia, Kent, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Newaygo, and Osceola counties. Services include but are not limited to transportation, home-delivered meals, adaptive equipment, senior centers, exercise classes, home chore, adult day care, and caregiver support. Call AAAWM today at 616-456-5664 to get connected to services or visit our website at www.aaawm.org.
