October Greetings!

I hope you are well and enjoying the transition into fall. In our area of Michigan, the colors are changing and it's just beautiful.

I'm excited to announce that we were awarded "Best of Weddings 2022" by The Knot and "Couples Choice" from Wedding Wire magazine! Thanks to everyone who voted for us, we're so glad you love the band!

One of our latest live videos, Dancing Queen, has really taken off on YouTube. It's had over 11,000 views and continues to rise. You can see it here. We've also got 3 new live videos from the last few months in the sections below.

I've gotten some questions recently about how I plan music for a multi-generational audience- considering weddings are made up of a wide variety of age groups. Here's some ways I make sure that everyone feels included in the dancing

I listen to the couples' musical tastes first & foremost. This gives me a great idea of what songs & styles they like so I can plan some current & classic choices.
Starting with a couple wedding reception classics really helps the older guests feel included and puts them at ease in getting out on the dance floor.
Singalongs are great for adding an interactive spin that gets everyone involved. These often encourage large circles on the dance floor of people just being together and singing to each other which are very special moments.
I watch the audience and read what they are ready for next. It's important to keep the flow at the right energy level for the dancers.
I always keep an eye on the timeline. As the dance floor demographic shifts age wise I make sure that the song selections do also.

Our wedding was 10/01/22 at Crystal Mountain. We hired Avalon the Band to do ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception music. Rich was very professional, approachable, and responsive throughout the whole planning process. We wanted a wedding band with a wide range of genres and we hit the jackpot with Avalon the Band. They can play it all! Our dance floor was full all night and our guests could not stop asking where/how we found our band. Everyone loved them!! We also loved that everything was included, lights, mc-ing, sound equipment/mics etc. Our ceremony was on top of the ski hill with our cocktail/reception starting directly after at the bottom of the hill. The band was able to accommodate with music at both locations simultaneously. We have a family wedding tradition called the “The Hat Dance” where the bride and groom have to wear a bonnet/straw hat and the guests dance around them to my Great grandpas favorite polka song. My grandpas favorite polka band was “The Harold Mitas Band”. Their music is harder to find since it was a local polka band. Rich was able to find the correct version of the song which made the Hat Dance even more special. Avalon the Band is not just a wedding band. We have experience to make sure your day runs smoothly. Band leader and manager Rich Burkholder has performed and MC'd at over 300 wedding receptions. He is well versed in the flow of events and will customize everything to your timeline and reception feel.

Can you provide MC & DJ services also?
Yes, we provide a complete audio solution to your reception and also ceremony if desired. All MC & DJ services are provided. We provide wireless mics for toasts, prayers, and other announcements.

Can you provide sound and music for the ceremony and cocktail hour?
Yes, we have multiple sound systems and are able to setup in different locations concurrently. We can provide microphones & music for ceremonies and cocktail hours. We have many different music options including acoustic guitar & vocals, instrumental piano, piano / guitar duo and more.

Can we choose the song list?
Absolutely. You can be as detailed as you'd like with guidance on songs to play or not to play and when they should happen. We can learn any songs for special music as needed.

Do you meet with each couple?
Yes, Rich Burkholder will meet with you in person if possible or via Zoom if distance is an issue. He will go through the timeline for your day to make sure everything happens on time. You can spend your time enjoying your special day and Rich will take care of the schedule.

What do you wear for weddings?
We've performed at weddings of all shapes and sizes. We'll customize our attire to the feel of your reception. Suits, tuxes, smart casual, whatever the feel of your reception is, just let us know and we'll fit right in!

How loud is the band?
We use the latest technology in audio including wireless Ipad mixers to ensure that we are at the proper sound level for the venue. We check in multiple times throughout the evening to make sure you are comfortable with our sound level.

How long do you play?
Our sets are customizable to your timeline. Usual timelines are 3x50 minute sets or 4x45 minute sets.

Do you allow special guests?
We do as long as this is prearranged beforehand. If you have a friend or family member who needs accompaniment at the ceremony, we have musicians for that also.
