20th Sunday after Pentecost
Genuine repentance and pretentious piety stand in stark contrast in the gospel and all around us. All creation stands in need of God’s forgiveness. Keep the faith. God’s people shall be accounted righteous for Jesus’ sake. Our God is merciful to sinners. For this we worship and glorify God forever.
Sunday + 9:00 AM
This is our primary weekly worship service and is both in-person and livestreamed on YouTube and Facebook. The liturgy is traditional and robust, including live music, and lasts about one hour. Holy Communion is celebrated at this service.

Wednesday + 6:00 PM
This worship service follows the texts and themes of the previous Sunday and is shorter (about 30 minutes) and more casual. This service is especially designed with young children and their families in mind, though all ages are fully welcome. In place of a “regular” sermon, this service features a message for all God’s children, incorporating story books, short dramas/skits, and other traditional children’s message elements. Holy Communion is celebrated at this service. This service is also in-person only (not livestreamed or recorded).
Reformation Sunday + Oct. 3
Reformation Sunday is next week, October 30. Join us for worship in-person so we can see your lovely Reformation RED outfits! We will also have special music provided by guest brass musicians.
All Saints Sunday + Nov. 6
All Saints Sunday is coming up on November 6. On this day, we call to mind all the beloved saints of all times and places, and in particular those saints near and dear to our own lives. One of the rituals associated with this day includes naming aloud those saints from our lives who have died in the past year, since last All Saints Sunday. Beginning Sunday, October 23, you are invited to add their names to our necrology (book of the names of the faithful departed), which will be available in the narthex before and after worship. If you cannot make it to worship before All Saints Sunday, you are also welcome to contact Pastor Josh, who can add the names for you.

Bible Study: Wednesday at 9 AM
Join us in-person in the narthex or on Zoom as we take a look at the upcoming lectionary readings for Sunday. No prep required, and coffee will be waiting!

God’s Love on Wednesday (GLOW): Exploration Returns in Nov.!
Dates: November 16 - December 14
Time: 7:15 to 8:15 PM (in-person and Zoom)
GLOW Exploration is back this November with a new series. Often, our studies have been book-based, but we’re mixing things up this time with a podcast-based series. Together we will listen to the 1619 podcast from the New York Times, an audio series that “examines the long shadow of American slavery.” Each week, instead of reading a chapter from a book, participants will listen to a short podcast episode (about 30-40 minutes each), and we’ll discuss what we heard during our time together.

Schedule:
November 16: Episode 1
November 23: OFF (Thanksgiving week)
November 30: Episodes 2-3
December 7: Episode 4
December 14: Episode 5 (Parts 1 and 2)
Access the podcast episodes on this page and follow along with the listening guide here. (We will use the listening guide as the basis for our discussion together too.)

Contact Pastor Josh for more information.

Ministry Staff Update
It is with mixed emotions that we announce the resignation of our Minister of Music Kjel Hanson. We are grateful for Kjel’s past six years of service at St. Philip. His last Sunday with us will be Christ the King/Reign of Christ Sunday, November 20, and we will plan to celebrate his ministry with us during and after worship that morning. Read Pastor Josh’s full announcement here.
Now Hiring: Worship Musician
Following Kjel’s departure from his role, we will also begin the search for a Worship Musician who can help lead our congregational song on Sundays and holidays. Click here to learn more about the position and share widely with friends and neighbors!
From Marilyn
To my St. Philip family,
Thank you all for your love, prayers, food, and hugs during this sad time for me and my family. Also, for all that came to the visitation and Mass, including Pastor Josh, your support meant SO much!
Love, Marilyn
