Tēnā koutou,

I hope you all had a fantastic spring break and enjoyed the variable weather. When I spoke with the students at assembly this week it appeared that many of them were able to make snowmen in the holidays. It was definitely great to see the sunshine in the second week.

Term 4 is a busy one with NCEA students preparing for exams which start in week four on the 7th of November. Pet day is occurring that same week on Friday 11th of November. Information has gone out to families so please get in touch if you have any questions or you need clarification. There will also be swimming sports this term and details will be provided as they are finalised. I would like to congratulate the students that competed in the recent South Otago Primary Swimming Sports. The Catlins Area School team was extremely competitive and was just pipped at the post for the overall team winners.

There will be two NCEA Accord teacher only days in November to allow for our secondary teachers to prepare for the upcoming changes to NCEA. These days also allow our primary teachers to focus on curriculum and their teaching and learning programmes. These teacher-only days will be on Monday the 21st November and Monday the 28th November.

This year prizegiving will be held at the end of the school year on Tuesday the 13th of December, commencing at 6 pm. There will be more details in future newsletters.

Enjoy your long weekend and we will see you back at school on Tuesday.

Ngā mihi nui,

Glenys Hanley

Principal

If I were a food, I'd be noodles refusing to get on the fork.

If I were an animal, I'd be a horse pulling on the lead rope.

If I were a flower, I'd be a rose pricking childrens' fingers when they tried to pick me.

If I were a an insect, I'd be a spider fixing it's wrecked web.

If I were an object, I'd be a computer refusing to work.

Sunhat

It is compulsory for students in Year 1 - 6 to wear a plain navy bucket hat or wide-brimmed hat in Term 1 & 4. Students at school without a hat must remain in an allocated shaded area or inside at break times. Staff are encouraged to model appropriate sunsafe behaviour by wearing sun protective hats and clothing, sunscreen, and making use of shade whenever possible. Parents are also encouraged to wear sunhats and be positive role models when picking up children or participating in school activities.

It's that time of year again when we dust off the trophies and clean them up. We kindly ask for the trophies to be returned to the main office in preparation for 2022 Prizegiving.

Word of the Week is back for this term! Students have to use their imagination to think of an interesting definition for obscure and sometimes archaic words. (We don't want the real meaning.) The most interesting and imaginative definition will win a book prize at the end of the week. This week's word is "fardingbag" - is it an animal, vegetable or mineral?
