The Spectacular SA Sea Slug Show
Friday 28 October - Monday 5 December
Onkaparinga Gallery & Red Rover Gallery
Monday - Friday 10am–4pm | Saturday 1–4pm | Closed public holidays

Exhibition Opening
Sunday 30 October
2-4pm

Bar available
Light refreshments will be provided

Nudibranchs and other sea slugs are a diverse group of small, bizarre marine animals. Globally, they appeal to marine photographers and other artists due to the amazing variety of colour, form / shape, pattern, size and lifestyle.  South Australian waters support an incredible array of beautiful sea slugs, ranging from widely distributed Indo-Pacific species, through to SA endemic slugs that have not been found anywhere else. As well as a vast array of spectacular local sea slugs, within the City of Onkaparinga area there are introduced nudibranch species from other countries, that were documented as part of a local citizen science project in 2020 and 2021.

This show combines some of the best examples of sea slug art in South Australia, by a group of dedicated nature artists and photographers, many of whom are also involved in citizen science in Gulf St Vincent, and other parts of SA.  Curated by Janine Baker, with participating artists Camilo Esparza, Paul Macdonald, Elizabeth Solich, Tina Moore, Emma Monceaux, Dan Monceaux, Anita Futterer, Shaun Ruxton, Marianne Chi, Chloe Williams, Anne Davies, Heidi Newton, Mark Sutcliffe and Janine Baker.

The exhibition space will also include a children’s activity table for sea slug art, craft and science education. Part of the exhibition space will also include photos from entrants in the annual Neville Coleman Memorial Nudibranch Event community photo competition.

Noarlunga Theatre Company presents
AFTER DINNER

After Dinner, set in 1987, was Andrew Bovell's first play, and is his only comedy. After Dinner is a poignant and hilarious collision of lonely hearts, sex, friendship and Friday night drinks.

A suburban pub, circa 1987. Paula, Monika and Dympie are going to paint the town red... or maybe just a deep shade of embarrassment. Semi-eligible blokes Gordon and Stephen are shaking off the office and revealing their own peccadillos while they’re at it.

ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE

ALAN COOK

Artist in Residence October-December
Riverside Studio

RE-SOUNDING NGANGKIPARRI: REVERBERATIONS OF COMPLEX BIOGRAPHIES
The Re-Sounding Ngangkiparri project lies somewhere between producing a documentary and creating fiction by using acoustic ecology and electronic music to allow the local landscape to narrate itself. Recording the chaos of human activity interwoven with natural sounds at sites along the river, Cook aims to capture daily life in its reality and the acoustic suffocation of the Onkaparinga Estuary.

Alan is seeking stories.
Alan is seeking stories which share the wider communities experience of interacting with the River. Be it swimming, fishing, floods, bridges, old houses, the dump, anything. Any contribution can be truly helpful and will be combined into the final exhibition.
These stories will be recorded to be embedded in a large electroacoustic work documenting the Acoustic Ecology of the area. Contact Sauerbier House on 8186 1393 or drop by to arrange a time with Alan to tell your tale.

NATURALISTIC SEEING
Drawing Workshop with Kathleen Munn

How you look at nature and compare it to your work will be the focus of this workshop. The basis of the approach presented in this workshop is not an 'ism'. Though it is a way of seeing that some 'isms' flowed out of.

The Realists, Naturalists and the Impressionists all tried to represent nature as they saw it. They just did so with different eyes, figuratively speaking. Seeing in the right way will create good habits and drawing will become easier and more enjoyable.
Strong drawing skills allow deviation from what you actually see and then can become an artistic choice rather than an accident or whim.

We will begin the workshop by exploring the basics of drawing which will include.
-Visual measuring and size relationships
-Positional relationships
-Values in light and shade

Radical Practice: Guildhouse reVision Symposium 2022

Exploring the theme of Radical Practice, the 2022 Guildhouse Symposium will provide a platform for us all to come together and explore the big and small gestures that shape our individual and collective practices.
We each have our own self-determined rules that guide us, that define our arts practice and in turn our arts community. Within most arts practice there is the search for radical change, socially, politically, environmentally, personally.

This Symposium follows a history of providing opportunities for professional development for South Australian artists through in-person connection and storytelling. Wrapped around the theme Radical Practice local artists are given access to local and interstate professional artists who care about and are deeply engaged in their community, to share experiences, provide advice and strengthen ways of thinking about personal and collective practice.

Three discussion panels will feature local and interstate voices including Kate Larsen, Jayne Bates, Rayleen Forester and more to be announced soon.

Saturday 12 November
10:30am-5:00pm
