Special Guests and an Important Topic at UN DAY Event
An enthusiastic crowd of students, politicians, activists, and other concerned citizens gathered at the International Institute this past Saturday evening to discuss Food Insecurity in the world and in the St. Louis community. Guests enjoyed delicious food from the Little Angels Foundation, keeping in mind that over 800 million people in the world go to bed hungry every night. The evening's agenda included brief talks from Mayor Tishaura Jones; Kenny Murdock, St. Louis County Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion; Himaja Nigireddy, United Nations US Youth Observer who joined virtually from Rome, Italy; and David McFarland, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of International Organization Affairs. After hearing from professionals discuss food insecurity in the world and community, a panel of very generous people shared what they do and how they do it to insure everyone in the greater St. Louis area has enough food to eat every day.
Kudos to the many Civitas students who came to this enlightening event!
Midterm Election is Two Weeks From Today!
Let's Talk About Results.

Reece met with students earlier this year to talk about the midterms.
Soon the political ads, poll predictions, and heated "what-if" discussions will come to a stop. We will all most likely be surprised by some outcomes and confused by others. Join Civitas for a virtual post-election discussion on Wednesday, November 9th at 7:00 pm via Zoom. We will have two former Civitas interns, Reece Ellis and Claire Shackleford, highlight results in Missouri and beyond. This will be an excellent chance to better understand what the wins and losses might mean for our state and country. Your questions will be the focus of the conversation.

Claire (shown right) was a Civitas all star and helped with street polling in high school.

November 19 Model UN Sessions a Little Over Three Weeks Away

Delegates wanting to speak at last December's MUN session.
(Masks will be optional for upcoming MUN dates.)
We know delegates are busy researching their countries and preparing for their upcoming Model UN sessions. Important additional steps to remember:
  • Every delegate, even if sharing a country, must sign up for Model UN participation:
Click here to reach the Model UN signup form.
  • Begin researching global problems and drafting resolutions. There are a lot of helpful resources on the Civitas website for writing resolutions.
  • Let Civitas know if you'd like us to visit your club or group to talk about resolution writing.
  • Submit final resolutions by noon the Wednesday before your Model UN session.
  • Let Civitas know if your school takes new countries or no longer needs any that you drafted.
