Community Art Center
The Community Art Center is thrilled to offer two Creativity Labs this month in partnership with local non-profit organizations. Creativity Labs are designed for all levels and abilities and aim to bring families and community members together through art, enjoyment, and the creative process.
Dia de los Muertos Altar/Ofrenda Building Workshop presented in partnership with Defiende Nuestra Tierra
Saturday, November 5
In honor of the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos, celebrate and remember a relative, a friend, or a person who was meaningful by creating a temporary altar at the Community Art Center. Participants are invited to bring their own pictures of loved ones and additional personal items and traditional components. Table space, tablecloths, sugar skulls, marigolds, and art supplies are included with workshop registration fee: $10.00 per alter/table space. In addition, the community is invited to gather and view the gallery of completed altars from 3-5 PM. This reception is free of charge and no registration is required.
Gingerbread Design and Build Workshop presented in partnership with the Glenwood Springs Historical Society
Saturday, November 19
Kick off the holiday season by designing and building a three-dimensional creation out of Gingerbread that represents a special place or memory. Creations can be taken home to enjoy or entered in the Glenwood Springs Historical Society’s annual Gingerbread Competition at the Hotel Colorado on November 25th. Registration fee includes a gingerbread recipe, 12 x 12 plywood base, icing, and colorful candies to use as decoration. Participants are encouraged to bake their gingerbread sheets in advance and bring additional decorative elements.

Community Center
Have a screaming good time with Glenwood Springs Parks & Rec for our annual Halloween Spooktacular event! Join us rain or shine for Halloween festivities, pumpkin hunt, carnival games, fire pit, bounce house, entertainment, all-ages Spooky Skate & more! Main Event: 3:00pm-5:30pm. Spooky Skate: 5:30pm-7:00pm. Cost: $6 per person (includes ice skating). Thank you to our proud sponsors: Giovanna O. Aquatic Center
Exercise in our lap pool, play in our activity pool, or relax in the hot tub. View our weekly schedule or check out our website for more info. Winter and Spring swim lessons registration will begin 12/14/22.
Climbing Wall
The wall offers top rope, auto-belay routes on a surface that simulates many features of actual rock, including multiple small crack climbs. Youth climbing classes are offered regularly, view Hours and Register for classes. For an introduction to climbing, children 7 and under can try the wall with Little Rec Climbers.
Little Rec Care
Join us for playtime with Little Rec Explorers! Drop in Rec Care available daily or Annual Explorer Membership available, for children 1-7 years old.
Baby & Me
This new program for new and expecting moms will focus on breastfeeding, lactation, and parent support. Programs include weekly drop-ins for breastfeeding, moms support groups, and four week program classes for all you need to know to successfully feed your baby. Lactation services offered by Amy Schroer, a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC).
Little Rec and Junior Explorer Programs
Our Explorer team is here to provide fun learning experiences for our community’s kids and families. Little Rec programs are for ages 1 to 7 years old. Junior Rec programs are for school aged children 5 to 11 years. We have a variety of weekly programs, including Indoor Playground, Little Rec Climbers, and Wednesday Junior Rec After-School Club. Special programs for November include Junior Rec Club Thanksgiving Break and Explorer Workshop: Thanksgiving Tablescapes.

Community and Therapeutic Recreation
Adaptive Climbing Wall
The Community Center Rock Climbing Wall now has adaptive climbing gear to allow people of all abilities and ages the opportunity to climb! If you or someone you care for is living with a disability and would like to try adaptive climbing, email Steve.Frederick@cogs.us to book a time!
Inclusive Office Hours
Are you a caregiver or a person living with a disability that is interested in pursuing adaptive recreation opportunities with the City of Glenwood Springs Recreation Center? Email Steve.Frederick@cogs.us to set up an Inclusive Office Hours to ensure you or your child are well supported within all our programs through adaptive equipment, behavioral support, and other inclusive needs.

Athletics and Outdoor Recreation
Our inaugural season of NFL Flag Football was a touchdown and we are looking forward to an expanded league in the spring; play will take place in April and May. We are always looking for coaches and referees to help make the program successful. If you are interested in coaching or being a referee, email nick.adams@cogs.us to find out how to get started.

Adult Hockey
We are offering three leagues for adult hockey: a 40+ league, a C league, and an A/B league. We will play games on Sunday’s beginning November 13. The 40+ league and C League are full. Registration for the A/B League closes Friday. A/B teams will be accepted on a first come basis. Register now for Adult Hockey.
Roaring Fork Youth Basketball
Games will begin the week of January 16th and will be played at 6 and 7 PM at locations throughout the Valley. We anticipate having one game per week and one practice a week throughout the season. Camp will begin the week of December 5th and practice will begin January 2nd the season will conclude around March 2nd. For more information of youth basketball please visit our website.
Little Demon Basketball
Our Little Demon programs continue with Little Demon Basketball. This program will be expanded for basketball to include those in Kindergarten through Second Grade. This program will take place for 5 weeks beginning Saturday, January 7 from 9 AM to 10 AM. The program will focus on instruction and game type activities. Register for the Little Demons Program by December 31st.
Adult Basketball
We will offer both Men’s and Women’s basketball leagues beginning the second week of January. Games will be played on Thursday evenings at the Community Center. Games will be played on the smaller court utilizing half the gym. The season will run for 8 weeks from January 12th through March 2nd. Registration must be completed online by December 18th.
Adult Flag Football Tournament
The annual Glenwood Springs Flag Football Tournament will be held Saturday, November 19th. We will play utilizing the NFL Flag Rules used this year at the World Games in Birmingham. We will expand our offering to include both a men’s and women’s division. Space is limited, so register now. The registration deadline is November 6th.
Special Olympics
The Winter Special Olympic Season includes Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Figure Skating, Speed Skating, Snowshoeing, and Basketball. We are putting teams together for team sports as well as work with individuals for individual sports. For more information, visit the Special Olympics competition website.
