Congratulations to the Winner's of the 2022 People's Choice Awards!

On behalf of the Sunshine Coast Business Recovery Centre(SCBRC) and the Gibsons, Pender Harbour and Sechelt & District Chambers of Commerce, I would like to congratulate all of the winners, finalists and nominated businesses of the 2nd Annual Sunshine Coast People’s Choice Awards.

I would also like to extend a huge thank-you to the Sunshine Coast community for the incredible support that was shown this year. The response from business owners and residents alike has once again exceeded our expectations—working together we have created a new way to celebrate the local business community that plays a vital role in making the Sunshine Coast such a special place.

The 2022 People’s Choice Awards succeeded in putting the spotlight on the eclectic diversity of local businesses we have here on the coast, helped to celebrate and promote positive stories of community building and economic brilliance, and was overall a fun and inclusive online event, bringing our community together…and now, the people have spoken!

On the following pages you will find all of this year’s local voted community favourites, and what a list it is! But, I also want to acknowledge the ongoing contributions of each and every one of our amazing local businesses. Every local business, small or large, adds something unique, different, and one-of-a kind, and only together can they create the exciting, livable coastal community we are proud to call home.

Let’s continue to celebrate and support our vibrant local business community here on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, and congratulations again to all this year’s favourites!

– Yarrow Drtina, Small Business Programs Manager, Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Organization(SCREDO)

Oct 22: Sunshine Coast Food Bank Drive

From the Coast Reporter:

The Sunshine Coast's Food Bank Coalition is holding a 'depot day' Oct. 22 as the local food banks' supplies of non-perishables dwindle

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Food Bank Coalition (consisting of the four food banks) is hosting a Coast-wide “depot day” at grocery stores and Sunshine Coast Credit Union locations. Volunteers will collect donations of non-perishable foods at those locations.

Some non-perishable items that are particularly asked for include:
  • Tinned fruit,
  • small jars of jam and honey,
  • boxes of cereal (which are valuable and extremely expensive for the food banks to buy themselves),
  • tinned protein (seafood and other meats like chicken),
  • hearty soups in wintertime (and chillis and stews).
“Then we're able to use our budget to purchase the perishables: The dairy and proteins and all the fresh local vegetables that the people also ask for,” explains Hergesheimer.

Collective Perspective Survey
Collective Perspective survey

How is the labour shortage affecting your business? What policies matter to you? How are you navigating the rising costs of energy?

The 2022 Collective Perspective Survey closes Friday, Oct 21 at 5pm! This annual survey captures insight from every region, sector and business size in the province —making it the largest economic snapshot of B.C.’s business climate.

Results of the survey serve to:

  • Identify evolving trends that help us better understand our past, present, and future.
  • Inform the advocacy efforts of the BC Chamber of Commerce and its provincial network to advance policies that serve B.C. businesses.
  • Brief government on the business climate during annual consultations.

Its results reflect the issues that are top of mind for our business community. Your feedback will inform the actions the BC Chamber of Commerce and its provincial network need to take to address them.
