Poulsbo Sons of Norway 2-44 - President's Message
Hej all,
Happy November everyone! Hope you are doing well and enjoying the changing seasons. Much going on in the lodge as I think you will find as you peruse this edition of the newsletter to discover something to get involved in.
This past month the lodge has been involved in some great community events. The Vikings have participated in the North Kitsap High School homecoming with bonfire and the Halloween bonfire for the community complete with candy for the kids. The lodge royalty handed out candy on Halloween night with the other downtown businesses, we had the Liberty Bay Books author reading with David Williams that had over 75 people come, and the Sharenet dinner auction will be held at the lodge November 5th to support the needs of the community. The pancake breakfast is attracting more people all the time, and plans are being finalized for the Julefest celebration December 3 that we all look forward to kick off the Christmas season.  The lodge is continuing to participate and partner with the Poulsbo groups like the Parks and Recreation and Chamber of Commerce and Downtown businesses so we can make this a great place to live and belong. It is very encouraging to me as president of the lodge to see the excitement and vitality of lodge members as we make events that capture the hearts of our city and keep our Norwegian roots alive.
If you feel you can offer something to the lodge and have not been asked, we have opportunities for the right individual. Rental hosts and Friday night dinner leads are being sought out. And it would be great to start up Kafe Stua’s (Norwegian style lunch) again! I would love to talk to you about it sometime.  See you down at the lodge!
Fred vaere med deg,
Paul Anunson

Visste Du?
(Did you know?)
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was originally called the "Macy's Christmas Parade" to kick off the holiday shopping season. Held in 1924, the first parade included monkeys, bears, camels, and elephants borrowed from the Central Park Zoo instead of the traditional character balloons that have come to be part of the annual parade.

In Norway some people celebrate Thanksgiving, or høsttakkfest, like in America but on a smaller scale. The church celebrates with prayers about crops and with food for all. The date for høsttakkfest is not set, so the dates vary from early September to late October. However you celebrate Thanksgiving, we hope everyone has a wonderful, peaceful
celebration with family and friends.
