Clean Slate Clinic - Home Detox Service launched
Western Queensland PHN recently commissioned an innovative new service Clean Slate Clinic to support better access and more service choice for Western Queenslanders wishing to safely reduce or cease their alcohol and other drug use.
Clean Slate's mission is to improve the health and wellness of individuals concerned about and wishing to do something about their (or a loved ones) alcohol use and make withdrawal (detox) accessible irrespective of postcode or socio-economic status.
The telehealth clinic is led by GP Dr Chris Davis, a global leader in General Practitioner alcohol withdrawal management. Working under his guidance are a team of highly trained alcohol detox nurses who provide the additional tele-health care needed for someone to successfully detox from alcohol at home.
Since its inception in 2014, Dr Davis’ GP outpatient program has shown remarkable success in helping people cut down or stop using alcohol, with or without medication, and is now being offered via telehealth to support people through a medicated withdrawal process from the comfort and privacy of their own homes. This can potentially avoid someone requiring detox having to travel to a residential detox facility outside of Western Queensland and the cost and weeks of disruption to family, work and other life commitments.
The service is currently available both to private and to public patients through a partnership with Western Queensland Primary Health Network. Clean Slate can work closely with a person’s GP in the detox and post-detox recovery process, and benefits for GP’s include:
Training and education of alcohol detox for GPs and other practice staff
ability to bill MBS items for this service
regular communication with clinicians on progress of patients
patient privacy maintained due to home-based detox
relapse rates much lower than conventional rehab facilities

Dr Chris Davis will provide an overview of the Clean Slate Clinic program and on managing alcohol withdrawal in the bush via a live virtual seminar.
