What's happened?
A new report has the upcoming Vivo X90 Pro+ being the first phone to make use of the equally-new MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chip.
Why does it matter?
We're expecting to see new flagship hardware from both MediaTek and Qualcomm in the next month.
What's my take?
You might still be in the camp where you dismiss MediaTek - but you shouldn't be. The company is making significant moves, trying to throw off the image as the poor cousin to Qualcomm in the chip stakes - and having some success too.
It's no surprise that MediaTek and Vivo might be aligning - we've seen Xiaomi on stage at previous Qualcomm events presenting itself as the first to launch with new Snapdragon hardware and it looks like Vivo might be about to do the same.
What's also interesting is that we're now seeing versions of phones offered with both Qualcomm and MediaTek hardware - with the ROG Phone 6D being a perfect example. What's clear is that MediaTek wants its Dimensity hardware taken seriously.
