Text Sets Increase Student Achievement

Dear Educator,

The science of reading demonstrates that text sets provide a variety of instructional and motivational benefits, ranging from better reading comprehension to improved writing. A text set is a diverse set of texts that are grouped together because they are conceptually and thematically related. Reading a mix of fiction and nonfiction, classic and contemporary texts from different genres that are focused on one theme – such as birds, gardens, music, or families – gives students a stronger foundation on which to build their understanding of the topic.
