The results are in! Nearly 500 people voted on the design for Bemis Public Library’s new bookmobile, and the winner was Driven to Read with 58 percent of the votes.

The Bookmobile will allow for mobile library programs around Littleton, delivering hold items to those who have difficulty traveling to the library, and carrying a rotating collection of items including large-print, children’s, bilingual books, and other materials. Library staff also hope to bring the Bookmobile to summer festivals and events, to senior care facilities, and hold children’s story times around town.

The Bookmobile is being outfitted at Summit Body Works in Fort Lupton and scheduled to hit the road early next year.

It’s almost time for The Stride, the annual race event to support the Littleton Public Schools Foundation! The event includes 5K and 10K races, a kids’ fun run, and a Wellness Expo.

Both the 5K and 10K courses are USA Track & Field certified and offer beautiful scenery through historic Littleton neighborhoods. Race prices start at $17 and include a long sleeve t-shirt and entry to the Wellness Expo, featuring fun family activities.

Fees help directly support Littleton Public Schools students and teachers. Virtual race options are available. School-appropriate costumes are welcome! Please, no dogs.

Discover Littleton’s spooky side on a haunted walking tour with Haunts of Littleton!

Rich with history and eyewitness accounts, the walking tour takes visitors on an hour-long journey through Downtown Littleton, featuring old tales and visits to sites of paranormal activity. Master storytellers are dressed in period attire from Colorado's past. New routes and stories are added every year.

Tours will be held October 21, 22, 28 and 29. Tickets are $17 for adults and $10 for children under 12. Hurry, they sell out fast!

The Littleton Museum would like to thank everyone who came out for the Harvest Festival October 8! Proceeds from ticket and pumpkin sales help support museum programming. Here’s a look at some of the numbers from the big day:

Weather: Clear and sunny, high of 72. Bright blue sky all day!

Visitors: 11,988 (Second-best attended Harvest Festival ever!)

Pumpkins: A handful grown on the farm in this drought year, 2,200 ordered locally.

Carnival games: Six (Fishing for Prizes, Drop in the Bucket, Stand-up-the-Bottle, Ring Toss, Hat Toss, Strong Man Bells)

Flutes given out as carnival prizes: 58 (sorry, parents!)

Pigs roasted: 1

Volunteers: 83

Cotton candy served: 1,000 packs (blue was the runaway favorite again this year)

The Littleton Police Department (LPD) is proud to announce the promotion of five officers to leadership positions. A promotion ceremony was held October 12 at the Littleton Center to celebrate the accomplishments of Corporals Joe Fiocca, Harmony Thomas and Brant Dimock, Commander Steve Skundberg, and Sergeant Rodney Martinez.

Corporal Fiocca began his career in 2013 with the Black Hawk Police Department and joined LPD in 2020. Fiocca serves on the peer support team, serving fellow officers and their families, and is also a driving instructor.

Corporal Dimock began his career with LPD in 2016. He works as a field training officer, is a member of the SWAT team, and is also a firearms and defensive tactics instructor.

Commander Skundberg began his career in law enforcement in 1993 in Federal Heights and worked as a reserve officer prior to joining the Arapahoe Community College Police Department. Skundberg joined LPD in 1995 and has worked as a field training instructor, SWAT negotiations team leader, detective, community resource officer, and special enforcement tactics team member.

Sergeant Martinez began his career in law enforcement in 1996 with the Walsenburg Police Department, was promoted to corporal in 2000, and joined LPD in 2001. Martinez served as a school resource officer at Heritage High School, and serves as the crisis negotiation team leader for the SWAT team. Martinez also serves as a field training instructor and a firearms instructor.

Corporal Thomas served as a legal assistant at the United States Attorney’s Office in the criminal division prior to joining LPD in 2018. Thomas works as a field training instructor.

Time is running out to share thoughts on the future of the Mary Carter Greenway!

South Suburban Parks and Recreation (SSPR) District is seeking input from community members for a study on the Mary Carter Greenway, the trail that runs alongside the South Platte River.

The Mary Carter Greenway offers access to parks and playgrounds, a nature center, shopping, dining, and much more. This study will help ensure the trail is safe, comfortable, and has the capacity to provide the amenities users’ desire.

Residents are invited to share their input by placing pins with ideas on an interactive online map. Comments concerning connection improvements, safety concerns, amenities, bottlenecks, and more are welcome. SSPR will collect comments and information until the end of October.

The Littleton Symphony Orchestra returns for its 39^th season October 21, with “Celestial Beauty,” a performance featuring Haydn’s Morning and Holst’s Planets Suite.

The performance will be the first under the direction of Dr. Catherine Sailer, who serves as the orchestra’s conductor following the retirement of longtime maestro Jurgen de Lemos.

Tickets are also on sale for the season, spanning five performances.

The cities of Littleton and Englewood continue the annual leaf-recycling program for the south metro area. In the previous 25 years of the program, 33,500 cubic yards of leaves have been recycled. Tire recycling is no longer offered.

There is a $6 gate fee to cover handling and shipping the material collected over the two-week period. Residents must show proof of Littleton or Englewood residency (driver’s license or utility bill with address) at the gate to receive this discounted rate.

Halloween Costume Parade Join Bemis Public Library either day outside for the Costume Parade. Kids can show off their Halloween outfits, enjoy some entertaining Halloween songs, and collect treats along the path. Littleton's Dog Mayor Murdoch will lead the parade both days. Colorado Ballot Issues with Active Minds Join Active Minds for an objective review of the current issues on the ballot this fall. Facilitators will review each proposal and present arguments on both sides. The group will also review the referendum and initiatives in Colorado. For adults of all ages. 2 to 3 p.m., Monday, October 24.

Concert: Four Shillings Short Rooted in Celtic and American Folk, the husband/wife duo of Four Shillings Short perform a Samhain/Halloween concert. Enjoy music, stories, and folklore to celebrate the Celtic bonfire festival of Samhain. For all ages. 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, October 29.

Historic Preservation Planner (Planner I, II, or Senior) The City of Littleton has an opening for an experienced planner with a focus on Historic Preservation. The position may be filled at the I, II, or senior level, depending on qualifications and department needs. In addition to coordinating and managing planning projects, including all aspects of current and long-range planning, this position will assist in managing the city’s historic preservation program.

Civil Engineer (I, II, or Senior) The Civil Engineer manages the planning, design, and construction administration of capital construction projects. The Civil Engineer also provides engineering expertise in the areas of development review projects to provide a high quality of life for residents and businesses by delivering well designed and constructed infrastructure. Positions perform and/or coordinate consultant engineering reviews of plans and specifications for both private and public projects in the city.

Library Assistant, Youth Services - Part Time The Library Assistant will furnish a high quality and variety of customer services to library users: answer reference questions and reader’s advisory questions for customers, provide assistance to library patrons in locating information and materials, and instruct patrons on how to use library resources, including electronic resources and digital content.
