Community Cookout and free Baldwin Pops concert this weekend!
 

The Orange Beach Police and Fire Departments invite the community to come out for the Annual Community Cookout from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, October 22nd at Waterfront Park. Join our first responders for a free lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs!   
 


 

Then on Sunday, the Baldwin Pops will perform a free concert in the courtyard of the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach from 5-6:30 p.m. Be sure to bring blankets, lawn chairs, picnics and beverages. There will be an award for the best picnic setup. 


 

LOOKING AHEAD - MARK YOUR CALENDAR

Thursday, October 27th - Arts Afire Fall Festival: The Annual Arts Afire Fall Festival is set for Thursday, October 27th from 5-7 p.m. at the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach. The festival is free and will include hot glass demonstrations, pottery raku firings, kids games, treats, face painting, raffles and music. The event is sponsored by the city and The Friends of the Arts. 


Friday, October 28th - Treats on the Trail: The Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail Foundation and the Orange Beach Coastal Resources Department will hold Treats on the Trail from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, October 28th. The trail of treats begins at the Orange Beach Sportsplex Trailhead and ends at AL’s Parkour Park on the Twin Bridges Trail. There will be trick or treating, a costume contest, games, races and smores. 


Monday, November 7th - First Responder Appreciation Night at Potluck: The Orange Beach Community Association will honor Orange Beach first responders at the November Community Potluck on Monday, November 7th at 6 p.m. at the Community Center.  A police officer and a firefighter will be honored at the annual appreciation night. 

Last year at the annual awards night and potluck, Fire Medic Jarrod Smith was named the 2021 Firefighter of the Year. The 2021 Officer of the Year award was presented to the family of Brandon Ard, who passed away in August 2021 due to complications associated with COVID-19.  Chief Dispatcher Julie Bonifay was named the police department’s 2021 Civilian Employee of the Year. The award winners are chosen by their co-workers. 

The Monthly Community Potluck is open to anyone. It is requested that those attending bring a side dish or dessert, or a $5 donation if you are unable to bring a food item to contribute to the meal. November’s entrée is fried chicken.

Doors open at 6 p.m. dinner starts at 6:30 and the program at 7 p.m.  

The Orange Beach Community Center is at 27235 Canal Road.

PUBLIC SERVICE 101

As part of “City Government Day” for the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber-sponsored Junior Leadership program, the City hosted the group of juniors and seniors from Orange Beach High School and Gulf Shores High School at the Orange Beach Coastal Resources office on Wednesday morning. The students learned about the Orange Beach Police Department, Orange Beach Fire Department, Coastal Resources and Administration, and the wide variety of duties handled by staff.

REC LEAGUE WINTER SPORTS REGISTRATION IS OPEN
 

Registration for the City of Orange Beach's Youth Basketball and Flag Football 2022-23 winter season will be open through November 6, 2022 for boys and girls ages 5-12.

The registration fee is $80 for each sport.

Congratulations to the Orange Beach High School Varsity Volleyball Team for finishing third in the 4A South Region this week. They are officially headed to the State Championship in Birmingham. The Lady Makos will face the Priceville Bulldogs, the No. 2 seed from the North Region, at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25th.

Little Women opened last night and runs all weekend at the Performing Arts Center! The Orange Beach Conservatory of Fine Arts is excited for you to meet Jo and her family!

The Orange Beach Garden Club awarded this month’s Commercial Yard of the Month to Perdido Place condominiums, located at 29500 Perdido Beach Blvd. Susan Grant, club member, is pictured presenting the sign to Jim Garren, resident manager. Congratulations!

Orange Beach Expect Excellence Community Theater and the Orange Beach Performing Arts Center are in the running in Gulf Coast Media's Best of Baldwin 2023. The categories are 
  • Local Production - Disney's A Touch of Magic
  • Local Theater Troupe - Expect Excellence Community Theater 
  • Youth Theater - Expect Excellence Community Theater
  • Theater - Orange Beach Performing Arts Center

UPCOMING SHOW: VISIONS OF CHRISTMAS

The City of Orange Beach Expect Excellence Music Department’s will present the 2nd Annual Visions of Christmas production on Thursday, November 17th; Friday, November 18th; and Saturday, November 19th. at the Orange Beach Performing Arts Center. The variety show is a high energy community-led Christmas production. Patrons will have the opportunity to see everything from comedy, to rock, to classical and so much more.  Come and celebrate the season with Expect Excellence.
