Connecting with God

"In the sanctuary of St. John’s, I feel the light and love of the Holy Spirit and know that I am never alone and am blessed to be surrounded by a community filled with the grace of Jesus." - congregation member

"Even though God is everywhere, still I feel St. John’s is where I’m closer to God." - congregation member

This past Sunday, we reflected on our connection with God, which is the foundation for everything we do as a faith community.  During the offertory, worshippers had the opportunity to write reflections on colorful slips of paper, which were then collected by the children and linked together into a paper chain.  Below you can find a selection of those reflections.

How St. John's helps us connect with God:
  • By offering a moment to set aside the constant busyness and to-do’s of my daily life and reflect on what is truly important.
  • By providing a calming, nurturing and open atmosphere where I feel I can grow spiritually with Pastor Allison’s guidance and become closer to God.
  • By offering a worship service where all are welcome and we can have community.
  • Through the Christmas services, music, food, and fellowship.
  • By being a place for my kids to learn about God’s grace.
  • Through confirmation classes and reading in church.
  • By bringing people together.
  • By giving me the opportunity to demonstrate faith.
  • By worshiping with people of all ages.
  • By accepting me as I am.
  • By being my second home and a place of comfort.
  • Through thought-provoking liturgy.
  • By being a place where you can honestly discuss what God means to you.
  • By being part of a family of loving and sharing people.
  • Through Bible Study and sharing our beliefs at that time.
  • Through music, the Word and fellow parishioners.
  • By offering communion each week, which renews my deep connection with Christ
  • Through a Sunday service that offers peace and inspiration for the week.
