Family Worship Space Proposal from our Faith Formation Team
Get informed about the vote.
The Faith Formation Team is proposing removing the pews in the "amen corner" of the Sanctuary to create a a space, with quiet activities, for children to remain in worship with their families. Creating this space is one way that we can offer support to parents of young children and live into our vision of being a multigenerational faith community.
As part of this proposal, a long pew from the "amen corner" would replace the two short pews on the wall of the lectern side of the sanctuary. The short pews would then replace two of our main sanctuary pews to create accessible seating for those with wheelchairs or walkers. Additionally, the wooden "rail" in front of the "amen corner" pews, would moved in front of the choir so that they would have a space to store their hymnals and feel more comfortable during worship. All remaining pews from these spaces, that are no longer being used, will be safely used at the church for future use.
We will evaluate the "Family Worship Space" in 6-12 months to ensure that it is inclusive of all in our worshipping community, as in particular, we do not want to negatively impact those who need hearing assistance in worship.
Please note that the cost of this project was voted on an approved by the congregation at the 2022 Annual Meeting in January 2022. This proposal has been discussed throughout the year, during Quarterly Updates, and most recently during two congregation wide conversations.
