November 2022 BVFF Update

Events, Outings, Projects, and More

CONSERVATION TEAM UPDATE

November is prime spawning season for Brown Trout on the Owyhee River and Boise River in town. Keep an eye out for their redds when you are wading.  For more information about how to identify a Brown Trout Redd, see our Conservation Blog Article:  https://boisevalleyflyfishers.wildapricot.org/Conservation-News/12939021

Our Conservation Team has been busy building an Angler Access up at the Diane Moore Nature Center and doing "Real River Cleanups".  Thanks To All who have volunteered for our projects this fall!  We are supporting two other cleanups on the Boise River in November. Watch for emails about a cleanup on November 5th by Vice Outdoors and another on November 18th by the Golden Eagle Audubon Society.  Both will include removing trash from the river, and we will be looking to find and remove fishing line.  And please remember to take a few minutes at the end of your fishing day to #FillTheNet and #LeaveItBetter .  We are always looking for #FillTheNet photos! Please send them to us at conservation@bvff.com. We will be doing some drawings for some bonus SWAG to all who participate.

Outings

Welcome to November. There is still fishing we can do, however it is also time to start planning for next year. The “On the Water with BVFF” program has grown these past six months and we have even greater adventures coming with outings and meetups. We also need to again thank the numerous host/coordinators who have helped us get you on the water; we have a continued need for more.

This month, we would like to give some key dates for you to start planning for 2023. These are key outings that we recommend you start planning to get to your camping spot, guides if needed, and to put on the family calendar:

May – Bruneau with WFFI. At the State Park the RV/camping spots go quickly so when the system opens plan on reserving a spot May 19th to 21st.

June – Henry's Fork. This outings link will give you the details.

In August we are working on an outing in the McCall area, from August 11th to 14th. We are still working on the details and will have an outing posting soon. We are looking for a variety of fishing locations from high mountain lakes you can drive to, lakes that require a hike and locations on rivers and streams. Plus, we will give you directions to Scout Pond for the kids. Start making your reservations at Ponderosa State Park, McCall RV or your favorite hotel or timeshare.

September features a return to the South Fork of the Snake, September 15th to 18th. The outing details are to be posted by the November meeting 11/10/2022.

And coming back to the present year and our November meeting, I will be doing a presentation on a Do-it-Yourself (DIY) trip to Kodiak. We will focus on the planning process so you can plan your own trip. Now is the time to start planning!

See you on the Water with BVFF,

Tom Old for the Outing team.

Communications and Marketing

Our new WIFFE (EXPO) website is getting some attention and if you google fly fishing expo’s, you’ll see it’s among the first sites to pop up. Check it out. This is a sign that our new online marketing campaign is working.

Remember that the club’s website (bvff.com) now contains links to check streamflows, reservoir levels, and current fishing reports under the LOCAL WATERS tab.

Check out our new YouTube video on construction of the trail and stairs at the Dianne Moore Nature Center.
